I really like their spelt but it is only available on Saturday mornings. There was no offer to remedy the situation in real time. The bakery owes me a refund for the cost of the loaf and I am curious how they are going to respond to having wasted my time (time is a currency and leisure time has a high value) as a result of their error.
Again, their spelt bread is flavorful, has a moderately dense but not doughy texture and, holds both for enough time to enjoy the whole loaf. Wonder how they will contact me as the staff member waiting on me took no information from me?
New notation to my last one star on service: Independent and I connected over the missing loaf of Splet. They were shocked and sorry that someone walked off with my load of bread. They made a full refund the same day and found a great way to compensate me for my time and effort on the fated day of the missing loaf. They have brimmed over the top of my rating on all things. Thanks for being Independent so you can make doing the right thing a no hassle event.
❎ Not for me: Round bread – too hard for me. If you like hard crust; maybe this is for you.
Perhaps the most famous bakery in Athens. My friends recommended me croissants and morning roll. Friendly staff and pretty store. Need to come early before they sold out!
They always have a smile on their faces and are super friendly, there is no pressure to get you to buy and get you out the door quickly, they also have a small terrace next to the running store so you can get your coffee and pastries and enjoy the people go by!
When I asked for a sandwich while ordering, the female staff member let out a loud sigh and asked which sandwich I meant, saying there were many kinds. Her attitude felt unprofessional and not appropriate for customer service.
Walking distance of 15 minutes from center of UG (hotel) or a 5 minute drive – easy to spot from Lumpkin St.
Walked in on a Friday morning from a cold-ish and rainy day and were greeted with warmth and sweet smell of dough. The 5–ish bar stools they have are quickly used by long term residents – so if you find a spot, try to take it fast – most people stayed there an average of 1 hour just chatting.
We tried a variety of goods including: morning roll (like a buttery and sugary wheel version of a croissant), orange and nut scone, carré des fraises (berries square) and a raisin bread. The bread was king – moist dough, light and excellent raisins (not super sweet). Really good latte too. This is a favorite on my Athens list!
