I came to this incredible Peruvian Amazon rainforest restaurant and the owner was wonderfully warm and welcoming! When we were unsure which juice to order, the owner enthusiastically recommended one and even offered us a small sample—it was absolutely delicious! He noticed us hesitating over the menu again and immediately offered more recommendations. Everything he suggested was excellent. We ordered the Peruvian tamale (a type of savory corn cake) and the fried plantains, which tasted incredibly unique and special. We loved this first-time culinary experience and highly recommend it to anyone looking for amazing exotic cuisine!

It’s my first time eating there, and there are many things against it. First, the service, one person for many customers; second, the food isn’t that good for such exaggerated prices. There are places with better Peruvian food; and third, the drinks; one of them had a bad taste (vinegar); I mentioned it to her, and she said that’s what the taste was. The lady… isn’t that friendly. I won’t go back.

The best place in town to get some authentic and delicious Peruvian food. It’s so hard to find a place that sells this type of food but this one does an amazing job with the dishes. I live in Queens, NY and the commute over here was definitely worth it. I will be coming back here more often!!!

The food was very good! Not many places have traditional Amazonian food. They have a wide variety of plates and they are all very tasty.

I’m not sure if maybe they were just having an off day and put something together quickly for DoorDash but the food wasn’t great at all. I order the chicken lomo and the rice was over cooked, the French fries were cold and very soggy. I also order the chicken and fries, there were only 4 extra small chicken wings with cold soggy French fries. I will definitely not order again.

Don’t let the small space and simple look fool you. La Kokona has amazing food!!!
Honestly I did not expect it to be great, but was blown away with how tasty their food was.
I definitely will be making this my new Peruvian spot in NJ. I suggest you give it a shot and judge for yourself.
To top it off the service feels homie, quiet and prices are very reasonable.

food is delicious, better to call ahead for availability due to minimum space.

We ate chicharrones de Paiche they were really good, we got jugo de cocona which was AMAZING I really recommend it, it’s like a passion fruit juice but with a nice twist. I enjoyed it a lot, we also got kokona special which came with tacacho which was awesome, is like a mash fried plantain with some crunchy chips inside, cecina which had a really nice smoke flavor, I would describe it as a thick bacon with a nice smoke flavor, it also came with juane which is rice cooked in banana leaf, that wasn’t good you can tell that that wasn’t fresh it was dry and it had a boil egg inside that was super hard and old and the last thing it came with was chorizo which was good but dry. Service was OK after we finish eating it took the server around 30 minutes to come to us to pay, we were the only people in the restaurant so there’s no excuse to take that long but overall it was a good experience, I would recommend if you are in the mood for some exotic Peruvian food
