Welcome to SMART’WICH! It’s more than a sandwich, its a SMART’WICH! Our Chef was born in Italy,grew up in NY,lived in Lisbon,now back in NY! Based on good healthy eats,our smart’wiches are served on handmade Portuguese bread. We’ve substituted fatty condiments with olive oil base sauces and yogurt base sauces which accompany some of our favorites;like roasted chicken and roast beef.We serve the best breakfast smart’wiches! Are you vegetarian or vegan?Try our vegetables carpaccio Crudo. Also, homemade pickled Portuguese sardines and marinated Portuguese Octopus smart’wiches are our alternative choices for those more adventurous palates! We are located inside Francesco’s Bakery and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner! WE CATER!

Smartwich is an absolute gem. Chef Michael is incredible—so kind, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about curating each recipe with care. I had such a wonderful lunch here today and couldn’t resist trying the meatball Smartwich, which turned out to be one of the most delicious meals I’ve had in a long time. I paired it with his homemade bay leaf iced tea, and it was a perfect match. For dessert, I tried Chef Michael’s homemade Portuguese pastel de nata for the very first time, and wow—it immediately earned a spot in my top five favorite sweet treats. Thank you, Chef Michael, for truly making my day with your amazing cuisine!

Heroes are very good here. Can definitely taste the freshness in ingredients. It is a fair price too. The Pastel De Nata egg tarts are very good here too. I get them by the dozen and put in the freezer for later. Make sure to show up early before they are sold out though. The chef is an extremely nice guy. Always a pleasure to order food from. He explains his options and gives recommendations.

There is really nothing else like a Smartwich. The house-made Portuguese bread with the perfect amount of crunch takes each Smartwich to the next level, and there are so many great options to choose from. Favorites are the Crudo, the Chicken (with the pastrami spread), and the Bacon (I like to add mozz) but the real way to go is to try whatever current Smartwich is running as a special. I just had the stuffed jalapeño one which inspired me to write this! So ridiculously good. Thank you Chef Michael!

I had the pleasure of seeing Chef Michael today and having his famous Sardines sandwich – it is phenomenally delicious!! The sardines are fresh and combined with the right amount of herbs and the perfect amount of acid via vinegar , to make the taste burst in your mouth ; they make one feel like they are being served in a bistro on the Spanish Mediterranean! If you like sardines , you’ll love the Chefs version ; if you haven’t tried them, run there to try ! The entire menu is filled with delicious items and the Chef prepares and presents them majestically!

An absolute hidden gem! One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the spicy hot oil sauce took it to the next level. I ordered The Whites — fluffy egg whites, fresh spinach, and perfectly melted brie on a warm, crispy Portuguese roll. Every bite was packed with flavor and texture. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into their food. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
