I got the shrimp and grits and WOW, it was amazing! The atmosphere isn’t great but who cares I’m there for the food and that’s it. Owner was super sweet and the food was fresh and came out quickly. Parking isn’t great but that’s downtown for you. I 100% recommend!

I had such a wonderful experience recently! The space was impeccably clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly. The food truly tasted like a delicious home-cooked meal, seasoned to perfection. I’m already looking forward to my next visit! Definitely a place worth returning to.

Tried Gumbo to Geaux for the first time and the food was fantastic. I had the seafood gumbo and the fried okra. The gumbo was very tasty with the shrimp not overcooked and tender. The okra was also prepared just right. The portions were large as well. Definitely did not leave hungry. It is in an old Subway so the atmosphere is what you would expect but atmosphere is not the main selling point and was not meant to be. Highly recommended!

I stopped by Gumbo to Geaux after someone who worked there was handing out menus, and I’m so glad I did. The seafood gumbo was phenomenal, rich and full of flavor. Every bite had that homemade taste that really hits the spot.
I finished with the Berry Bread Pudding and it was amazing. Warm, sweet, and bursting with berry flavor, it was the perfect way to end the meal.
Great food, friendly staff, and a truly welcoming experience. I’ll definitely be back.

This was a delectible recent lunch stop driving to Nashville from the Gulf Coast. Yummy authentic homemade gumbo. (And other Creole dishes plus great cookies.) Amazing chef! Delightful staff. We ate-in. It’s not fancy; just DELICIOUS! Essy off-on from I-65. Free parking garage is an easy block or so away. (Ask a local or Google that…)

Forget a hidden gem, this is a local treasure in my book. Somehow the picture of my gumbo didn’t take. Omg it was spectacular. But I did get one of my etouffee which was also spectacular. If you have a hankering for a sweet, at keast stop in and get one of her famous pecan cookies. Holy smokes that thing was delicious. Soft and yummy, pecan with a touch of vanilla. I’m not going to be able to describe things properly. The flavors of everything were straight out of cajun country Louisiana. Don’t worry if you don’t like spicy, it is tame. But not to the point of bland. It is anything but. I added more spice to mine. She also has a homemade hot sauce that I regrettably forgot on the counter. I was thinking it would be great on salmon. Sweet and tangy, not hot, but again like everything here, delicious and full flavored. I don’t think people walking past understand what they are missing as they walk past. Give the cookie a try and then grab yourself something to eat. You will be back.

We were at rails and ales in leeds Alabama. The crawfish and coneuch sausage quesidilla was fantastic, just enough spuce. Hot and fresh. Thank you. Spicy fries could have been a little hotter but delish

First off I’m from Lafayette , LA and this is NOT no cajun food , the gumbo had tomatoes in it so that was an instant turn off and the flavor was still not good the “juice” had no flavor . I also got the Crawfish Quesadilla and they asked if I wanted it seasoned and I said yes and there is absolutely NO flavor or season on this Quesadilla.. The crawfish taste like dirty crawfish and a little fishy.. The Menu said 14$ for the Quesadilla and I was charged 16$ for a plain crawfish Quesadilla and then I didn’t keep the peppers and everything else in and on it.. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone who wants Gumbo or “Cajun Style” food this was NOT it.. Disappointed.

I experienced Gumbo to Geaux at the Ross Bridge farmer’s market and my cup of seafood gumbo was phenomenal . The flavors were SO Louisiana in a cup. It was chunky with meats, ample rice, and the roux tasted homemade. This was my first time with this restaurant but it won’t be my last! I can’t wait to try their shrimp and grits.

Kept walking past the trunk until the aroma wafting from it made me stop. Ordered the red beans and rice. Heavy bowl they gave me, and the smell that hit me after taking off the lid was amazing. First bite, heaven.
