Food wise get the chicken satay, papaya salad (it’s spicy!)
Mains get the green curry, crispy fish, and pad kra pow. Also very spicy so recommend mild if you can’t handle the heat, but really flavourful. 100 AED per head with drinks included (Thai milk tea is a must!).
We started with the shrimp spring rolls. What arrived was a freezing-cold bundle of carrots and cucumbers, wrapped in a soggy, chewy glutinous skin, with one prawn sliced in half so that two shrimps could be stretched across four rolls. It was tasteless, cold, poorly prepared, and frankly disgusting.
Next came the Pad Thai with mixed seafood. The noodles were overly sweet and sticky, the prawns chewy and overcooked, and the calamari fishy and rubbery. While it vaguely resembled Pad Thai in presentation, the flavour was completely wrong. Anyone familiar with Thai cuisine would struggle to even identify this as Pad Thai.
Then came the final insult: Pad Thai Green Curry. This bore no resemblance whatsoever to Thai green curry. What arrived was closer to a broccoli and coriander soup, complete with random chunks of carrots and broccoli. It was absurd. Given that even basic commercial green curry pastes exist, there is no excuse for a Thai restaurant to get such a signature dish this catastrophically wrong. We couldn’t eat it.
When we raised the issue with the supervisor—pointing out that the dish was untouched due to how bad it was—she refused to remove it from the bill, insisting that “the chef is Thai and tasted everything before serving.”
That response was as concerning as it was dismissive.
If that is true, I seriously question the chef’s credentials. The owner and kitchen should be ashamed to serve food like this under the banner of Thai cuisine.
This meal wasn’t just disappointing—it was borderline insulting.
If you know Thai food, or have ever visited Thailand, you will be genuinely shocked at the audacity of what is being served here.
Avoid.
The first time around pad Thai and grilled squid were incredible. The size of the squid was gigantic and paired with the Thai Chilli sauce.. yummy!!
However, the second time we came, the pad Thai felt it was cooked in bulk and it wasn’t the taste we wanted, squid size was reduced and wasn’t grilled to the way it was first time.
Hence, felt a bit double standard here with quality. Might give it a try again in the future.
I’ll definitely be back.
We ordered the Som Tom, Tom Yum, Coconut Shrimp and Fried Chicken livers.
The colourful Som Tom flavours were fresh and bright. The Tom Yum had good flavour. The coconut shrimp were the best item we ordered, for certain. I could have had another order. The fried chicken livers were a generous portion and served with rice.
We were in a rush and this quick lunch hit the spot.
This review I hope serves as a feedback for the chef to improve the food and is no way should be taken as an attack.
I ordered 3 things: Pad khra pao, chicken khao soi and Mango sticky rice, although I was only able to take a picture of Mango Sticky Rice.
Pad Khra Pao: This was decent and I liked it. I did order Thai medium spicy, but I’d order Spicy next time since I think they assumed I couldn’t handle the spice, I liked the food.
Chicken Khao Soi: This takes away 1 of their stars for few reasons, Chicken Khao Soi is supposed to have a leg piece, but this one didn’t have one, instead it was some random pieces of chicken that didn’t belong in Chicken Khao Soi. Additionally, the noodles used were also not the type of noodles Khao Soi should have. But the soup was okay.
Mango Sticky Rice: This is where it turned from bad to worse. It wasn’t mango sticky rice, it was mango pudding. Instead of using the proper seeds, they used sesame seeds, instead of sticky rice, it was a literal pudding, that also takes away 1 one more star.
I hope this is improved and next time I go, it actually lives up to it’s name of being Authentic Thai Street Food. In which case I’ll update the review.
Overall, the service and the atmosphere was good, I hope that the chef takes this into consideration and prepares the food that it’s supposed to be like.
Food was great my favorite was the Green Thai Curry! I didn’t regret ordering it at all. The service was fast and excellent. Franco and Shang was our waiters, did an amazing job they were friendly, polite, and very attentive. Highly recommend Café Isan for authentic and flavorful Thai food!
