My husband and I each have our favorite local Mexican restaurant, but when a friend recommended Wahaca, we decided to give it a try. This restaurant is very colorful and clean. Staff is very friendly and efficient. We ordered the molcajete to share. It was a lot of very delicious food – very flavorful with just the right amount of heat. With our drinks the bill before tip was $30 and some change. Oh, and they bring you a tasty little complimentary dessert.

WAHACA Mexican Kitchen was amazing. The service was outstanding, the food was outstanding, and everyone was very friendly. The restaurant was very clean, and the atmosphere was festive and bright. I’m glad we found this restaurant, we will be back!!!

Wahaca Mexican Kitchen is hands down one of the best spots in town! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was exceptional — the staff were super friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit.
We tried the cheese dip, freshly made guacamole (prepared right in front of us!), the veggie chimichanga, and the veggie enchilada with mole sauce — everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were fresh and authentic, and the portions were generous.
The interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated in a traditional Mexican style — cozy, colorful, and full of character. It really added to the overall experience. We were also lucky enough to get free dessert.
Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving great Mexican food with excellent service!

One word Fantastic!! Tried this place for first time and was blown away! We ordered the Fajita Nachos and Chicken Fajitas and they were wonderful. Everything was fresh and tasted great. Our waitress Vanessa was extremely friendly and helpful. The manager went above and beyond surprising us with a free dessert which was a fried pastry and whipped cream. The inside of restaurant was very clean and decorated with multiple pleasing colors. Will definitely go back. Highly recommended!!

Great food, it was slow for a Sunday but we wanted to try a different Mexican restaurant and this place came to mind.
Huge drinks and generous servings. You have to try the Guacamole made at your table, along with shrimp fajitas and fish street tacos, we had so much food to go home for another meal. Seasoning was perfect and the best in Johnson City! We’ll be back! Oh and we got a bonus dessert!!!!

Update: Went back for dinner on a Friday night and they confirmed that this is the best Mexican food in JC. Staff are friendly and helpful, food is off the chain, and prices are reasonable. If you like Mexican, you have to visit Wahaca.
Went to Wahaca for lunch on a Sunday. We were surprised that there was no crowd and even more surprised after we tried the food. Everything was excellent from the chips to the big Burrito to the sauce they brought out that made my scalp sweat. The staff were super friendly and they sang happy birthday to another family’s party with sombrero and sparklers! ✨️ My wife said “that was the best Sunday lunch ever!” Please give me a reaction if you read this. Since we are visiting for the summer we’ve been meeting up with a lot of old friends and trying new spots. Yesterday we went to the charming and vibrant Wahaca Mexican Kitchen for shrimp fajitas. The shirmp was sizzling with flavor, the side dish was a perfect pairing with tasty beans, and the added guacamole was fantasticly fresh.
Also, love the atmosphere! So lively, well lit, and cheery with a welcoming and inviting staff and vibe.
A great place to try if you haven’t already. Really enjoyed it and the staff made us feel so comfortable.

50 y.o. family birthday party. Love the authentic decor and music. Great hospitality and wait staff. Room outdoor and plenty of room for our event. More food than we could eat! Tried many items and loved it all. Guacamole made at the table. Variety of vegetables and even gratis dessert. My personal fav was talapia and broiled shrimp on a bed of rice surrounded by steamed veg. But everyone had something they loved.

We arrived to a mostly empty dining room which has always been a red flag for me..
However I was pleasantly surprised .
Our food was hot and wonderful.
Being this was our first visit here, we ordered quite the assortment of food to share and try. My picky 8 year old got a modified California burrito and got exactly what he requested. His food was fantastic, I stole one of his shrimp and found it to be perfectly grilled .
My wife got the chicken and chorizo. Hot, fresh , and perfectly seasoned . Very flavorful.
My quesadilla was flawless in every way. However, the size was a tad small seeing it came with no sides. I found a solution for this by also ordering a tamale , which was scrumptious and honestly my favorite part of the meal…
We couldn’t decide on just one desert to share so we got two. The Tres leches cake and the flan. The cake was very good, tad small to share tho. The flan was very good, tasted homemade. I’m not sure if they make their own deserts or not but it tasted homemade.
Our service was good. Nothing over the top and memorable , However We waited on nothing and when we needed something we got it. Can’t ask for much more than that.
My family and I fully plan on a return visit to try some more of Their tasty cuisine .
