Stylish tasting room serving clever cocktails in a sleekly repurposed warehouse distillery.

The staff and vibes here are amazing. They do allow outside food as they do not have a kitchen. I would recommend the rum tasting, Russell was a great host and full of conversation. Im glad we made this a stop on our trip.

This was my first visit. The music and drinks were great. The gentlemen at the door and behind the bar were professional and friendly. Since it was my first time and no one else was waiting, I asked a few questions about the menu. Unfortunately, the female bartender with locs and glasses was unexpectedly rude. She began answering my question about a drink, then walked away while mumbling under her breath. The interaction was off-putting and unprofessional. Customer-facing staff should be able to interact respectfully with patrons. I would consider returning, but if this bartender is present, I will take my business elsewhere. Based on other reviews, this may be a recurring issue that management should address.

One of my favorite bars in DC. The vibe is awesome and the drinks are strong. I also am a huge fan of their rum (which you can buy on its own or after a tasting flight). When I go to a friends apartment and see cotton & reed rum, I know they have good taste.
Special shoutout to the cocomotion! This is one of the first places I brings friends when they visit DC.
Also, the location is well suited because you can get dinner in union market and then stroll over to Cotton & Reed.

We hosted a private party here in March for the ten-year anniversary of my nonprofit and were initially excited to support a local business- especially since it’s the first rum distillery in the District (and I love rum).
Unfortunately, the experience fell short, and I would not recommend hosting a gathering here under the current management.
The main issue was the service. From the start, staff interactions were unusually curt and, at times, hostile. Within the first ten minutes of set-up, we were yelled at about decorations that did not meet the venue’s specifications. Makes sense, our bad, not a problem at all, but the delivery was belittling and this set a really negative tone for our team and the event. The pattern then continued throughout the evening, where service felt dismissive and at moments mean-spirited.
Moreover, the event was a big moment for our newly hired team member, who handled the planning with great care, and it was discouraging to see her spoken to in a manner that left her feeling demeaned rather than supported.
We invested close to $5,000 for the three-hour gathering and expected at least professional courtesy in return. Instead, our group and team members left feeling unwelcome.
I had to on several occasions reassure the team that, not to worry, they’d done a great job (they had), and that whatever negativity was reverberating from the staff at the distillery wasn’t under their control or their fault.
I would have considered a lower rating if not for the fact that this is a small business. That said, I cannot recommend it for events unless management takes significant steps to improve customer service.

Nestled in the Union Market District, this open-air bar exudes a welcoming individuality. The bartenders create a friendly atmosphere, complemented by great music. The spacious layout, complete with an oversized skylight, provides a perfect setting to unwind with any-sized group. The bar’s beauty lies in its hexagonal light wood design adorned with wildlife pictures, perfect for cocktail pics.
The ambience is matched by the quality of the cocktails, which range from premade options to frozen drinks and freshly mixed concoctions. Whether you’re catching up with friends or looking to meet new people, this spot is a dope spot in Union Market.

The cocomotion cocktail was legitimately the best rum based cocktail I’ve ever had in my entire life! We had to order 2 of them while we were there! Would give 6 stars if I could for that cocktail alone! The place has slightly pricey cocktails at $14, but it is worth it in my opinion. The pink panther cocktail was good, but not as good as the cocomotion. We also tried the rum flight which was tasty and a good value for the price since you get to try 6 rums for $16!

One of my favorite places to visit in D.C. regardless of the season. This rum distillery has plenty of amazing and well-priced drinks, but they are especially known for their slushes. All of them are good, but my favorite is the Cocomotion with Coconut, Pineapple Pandan, and White Rum; however, their swirls are a great option.
There is plenty of indoor dining space with two counters in the bar room and a spacious back room that is heated in the winter with a fun disco ball in the center. In the summer, one can sit on the street in a turf setting. There is one bathroom for anyone to
All the bartenders are really kind and make great recommendations.

All rum all the time. A (tourable) distillery with a small bar area that serves all varieties of rum-based cocktails, flights, and even slushies. Solid service, and enough bar seating and wall counter seating to accommodate small groups. Cocktails we tried were good, if not entirely memorable so maybe should have tried a flight. But overall, a cool spot worth checking out if you’re in the neighborhood.

Meh. Good drinks but experience was soured by their poor response to the QR code ordering system issue, not enabling the option to adjust tip at checkout. In other words, if you add tips while adding drinks to your order, you will pay a double tip at the end (due to mandatory 20% service charge). When I approached the manager about this issue, he gruffly said “this is not our system, it’s an outside provider, we can’t do anything”….but the money goes to the bar?!? Of course they can do something but they won’t. Shitty service cannot make up for good drinks. Hard pass.

Great variety of drinks, reasonable prices, and plenty of space to hang out! They already had a great sound setup & disco ball so I was wishing there was a DJ & dance floor, but I also appreciated that it wasnt overly crowded.
I got the Jungle bird which I would’ve liked to have been a bit more bitter and with more molasses flavor but it was still enjoyable. Still, the prices and variety of options were greatly appreciated—I willl be sure to come back soon!
