Miners and Stockmen’s Steakhouse and Spirits in Hartville, WY
Reviews
Miners & Stockmen’s Steakhouse & Spirits in Hartville, Wyoming, is billed as Wyoming’s oldest bar (opened in 1862), and the history is a huge draw. The building feels like stepping back in time, with that classic Old West vibe. One local even shared that he bought his first beer here as a 16-year-old graduate—talk about living history!
The food lived up to the hype. We ordered rib-eyes with the included sides and salad, and they were delicious—perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. The steaks are clearly a highlight and why people make the drive to this out-of-the-way spot.
Unfortunately, the experience was derailed by serious staffing issues. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but then… nothing. We sat ignored for over 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. When we finally asked for service, we were told the entire restaurant was running with only two waiters that night.
Our server, Dina, was unprofessional—she dropped off our wine bottle without glasses or an opener. Worse, someone in the kitchen completely forgot to make our order, so we waited nearly two hours for our food to arrive. The dining room was uncomfortably cold the whole time. When dessert finally came, the parchment paper wasn’t removed from under it—not a huge deal, but our server had to lie to the cook and say we were “disgusted” by it to get any attention.
At these prices, and after driving way out here for a “fine dining” experience, we expected better appreciation for our patronage. A 2.5-hour ordeal just to eat shouldn’t happen.
Bottom line: The steaks and historic charm are worth it if they get their staffing sorted out. Right now, it’s overpriced for the hassle. My advice: Look elsewhere for a reliable fine-dining steak dinner. And heads up—they don’t allow kids under 5 in the dining room (per their policy), so this isn’t family-friendly in that sense either.
Would I go back? Maybe for lunch or drinks at the bar on a less busy night, but not for a full dinner unless things improve dramatically.
My husband and I shared the Miner’s Ribeye with a Ceasar Salad, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans with Sundried Tomatoes. “The steak melted in my mouth,” is how my hubby described his experience. The Caesar Salad had just the right amount of dressing and not one bit of the lettuce was wilted, the Mashed Potatoes were nice and creamy, and the Sundried Tomatoes on the Green Beans tasted like spaghetti sauce.
We truly enjoyed our experience overall.
Our waiter was very friendly and informative.
The staff could not have been nicer or more efficient. They went above and beyond to accommodate my son’s dietary restrictions without us needing to ask.
The prices were comparable to what you would expect at an upscale steakhouse, so don’t go expecting Texas Roadhouse. But the food was easily worth the price.
Our one caveat is there is scant offerings for vegetarians, but that’s not why you go to a steakhouse so no demerits there.
If you ever find yourself in rural SE Wyoming, and want the best steak served by the friendliest people, set your GPS and go. It will not disappoint.
Thanks again to the staff of the Miners and Stockman’s bar.
Steak was cooked to perfection and sides were fantastic!
Had the Hartville Jalapeño margarita and it was delicious!
