Hubby and I ended up here by accident kind of, but so glad we did. The place is clean and welcoming. The service was super nice and helpful, and the food!! I have seen them on The Scoop FB channel, but didn’t know they were close to where we were at the time, and the reviews were mostly outstanding, and I will say, they are now on our list and we will be back. Orders were Rib dinner with Mac and cheese and greens and my husband is not a fan a Mac n cheese and he said he would get this as a side , but all the other sides we had were so good. The cabbage, the potato salad and the cornbread, all were great.
Next time, the fried chicken, since that’s what everyone talks about. The fish is outstanding!!!!

I am not sure if this place counts as a “hole in the wall” but I will say that we all know that hole in the wall places have the most surprising food.
I got the ox-tail plate with 2 sides. Let me say that no one beats grandmas ox-tail however for a place that you can just walk in & order, this is a solid choice.
I have passed by here plenty of times, but only just recently came in. The flavors were great! Ox-tail over white rice, collard greens, baked beans & cornbread.
These days grandma only makes ox-tail on special occasions, so this place is a solid choice for any random day of the week.

Second visit was yesterday. Let me say this I’ve cooked professionally for nearly 30 years. Understand that Me deciding to purchase soul food out is a big step. ” Shut Em Down ” did not disappoint.
I have told everyone that listens how delicious & filling the restaurant is with their meals/portion.
I’ve had Mac & cheese, Cabbage, Candid yams, Green beans, corn bread, smoother Pork chop, and Ox Tails. ( both meats were offered with rice or Mashed Potatoes )

On my way to GA, my road buddy & I just had to get a delicious meal from ” Shut Em Down ” and to our Delight, and world known celebrity also came in to dine. Lunell. ( yes, the comedian ) No I don’t have a picture.
Wanted to express my excitement of having a Star choosing the same food establishment as myself, however; allowing her to enjoy private time was just as cool.
Today’s order was Pork chop sandwich, Smothered pork chop meal w/ Candied yams, cabbage, & extra side of Mac and cheese, three wing chicken meal with Cabbage, Candied yams, and Corn Bread.

Finally had a chance to try this local to me place! We ordered online and it was easy. No place to leave a tip at checkout though. The portions were huge! I had two pork chops smothered on top of mashed potatoes w collard greens and black eyed peas. Others had meatloaf, chicken tenders, and ribs. Meatloaf turned out be roast beef (I checked at pickup but I thought it was correct). Everything was good, but not great. I guess we expected a little flair. Like no bacon or ham in any sides, and no seasoning. But still not bad. We felt like it was akin to a holiday dinner at a family members house. Great portions for price. However, the parking lot was empty and they had tables and chairs up an hour before close. They only other people I saw were other to go orders.

Had the 3 piece dark meat fried chicken. Along with potato salad and cabbage. The chicken was one of the best I have had in Jax. The skin was thin and crispy and the meat was juicy. I am coming back to try their oxtails. The smothers pork chops was good too!

When I tell you I was just going to get me a plate cause my husband is such a picky eater. After eating one piece of fried chicken honey I ran back in here and ordered him a dinner because I know for a fact he’s going to love it. Its hot fresh like burn your mouth hot. The best thing was the greens and cornbread. Macaroni was more on the bland side so I only ate a spoon or two of it. I tried to like it but I became nauseous after eating about 50% of the roast and gravy

Perfectly seasoned and hot just like at ya mama house these folks have the playbook on lock. Home cooking.
