20251004 Trying out the Korean restaurants in the area… I haven’t had the spicy seafood noodles in so many years. Ever since Covid, every bowl of spicy seafood noodles that I tried was a disappointment, so I stopped trying until today. The one here was ok. The broth was very light. The lady who took my order was nice and reserved, but the one at the register was reserved. This restaurant is interesting the basement of an office building with entrance located in the back of the building. It doesn’t look safe but it is… I think.

What a fun spot! I was surprised by the size after going down the stairs of the office building. Service was perfect and prompt for this sort of spot and the food was all super tasty. Love the triple combo option when usually I only see a two combo.

Ordered the seafood tofu soup for delivery thinking it would be a full meal… and it came in a pint-sized container lol. Once I took out the shrimp, literally a quarter of the soup was gone. Definitely didn’t pay half-price for half a portion

My new favorite location for casual Korean Chinese food

Located in the basement of the building, Joongmi has delicious popular platters of Korean noodle and rice dishes. Even eating solo, you can experience a lot of different flavors with the double or triple combinations. I highly recommend the tangsuyuk (sweet fried pork) and the jajangmyeon (black bean noodles)! The wait staff even gave us some soup from the jjampong (seafood stew) to complement the fried rice. The prices were very value at roughly $20 for a triple combo, which is potentially more expensive at other locations.

I will be back again in the near future to try other combinations and other dishes on the menu

I don’t know much about Korean food. This time I wanted to get more experience so I ordered Ja Jang Myun (Noodle with thick black sauce) first time. The food delivery came in time, well-packing and big portion. I got two cups of noodle, one cup of sauce, one cup of seafood soup and a littlr cup of pickled veggie. Also I added fried egg. Overall, the food was ok as standard. Even though their flavor were quite mild for me, it was a good value for your money if compare amount of food you’ve got.

Something about this place being in the basement of a nondescript office building in Annandale makes it seem more authentic! You go down one flight of stairs and into a bright and cheerful restaurant.

Our server was lovely, and prompt and the menu is great. Of all the items you can get, most are also available in a double or triple combo. It’s still a ton of food, but at least it’s 2 or 3 different items. The servings we saw at other tables were massive!!!

My friend and I wanted to try 5 different things on the menu so we got 2 triple combos. We got the black noodles, the seafood soup, the fried rice, the fried pork, and fried dumplings. ALL were good, several were GREAT!

I found the black noodles (Jjajangmyeon) were good but a little bland in my opinion. The fried rice was very good with a slightly smokey flavor and perfect rice! The dumplings were great, as was the seafood soup (Jjamppong)! The broth was spicy, but also loaded with flavor and there was tons of great seafood in it including clams, mussels, octopus and shrimp.

The fried pork was also delicious, sitting crisp in a sweet and sour sauce.

Finally, the banchan was really nice! pickled radish and some of the best kimchi I have ever had. We asked for more! I know that Kimchi is very subjective, and one man’s fav is another man’s “meh”, but I loved this!

We were there for a late lunch on a saturday afternoon and the crowd was large and lively. We will definitely be back!

They have Jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce). I’ve been eating more Korean food this past year, maybe because I’ve been watching a lot more Korean shows on Netflix, but I haven’t found a place with Jjajangmyeon until now.

Place is underground and looks rundown but has an authentic feel to it. They way I see it, if the decor is questionable or feels old, but place is busy and has decent reviews, then the food must be good. I’ve gone back a bunch since. In the picture you can get two different “entrees” in a single bowl, but they also have Jjajangmyeon on its own.

Making Jjajangmyeon is a lot of work IMO and while I like my version better, this place is definitely worth. The serving sizes are huge. Would highly recommend trying once.

Stopped by to try some authentic Korean BBQ and was not disappointed. Had the Kal Bi beef ribs…..exceptional the Kimchi was like I was back in Korea when I was in the USAF… outstanding. Can’t wait to go back and try the Bulgogi. Very clean inside. Nice atmosphere and very friendly. If you are looking for a nice place to eat lunch or dinner give them a try.

Had lunch there today. I had the seafood jamboong, which flavor is quite good, not too spicy and salty like the ones I tried in other restaurants. It came with a lot of squids, 2 shrimps, and vegetables. Specifically I like the noodles a lot for it is very al dented. The price is very affordable with just $12 for a very big bowl. However, the place is quite dark and upset decoration. Overall, it is quite a good place to try food the next times.

I will NEVER EVER order from this place ever again. I ordered black bean noodles and sweet and spicy shrimp (ggan poong shrimp). Here are the reasons why I will never order from here again.

1. They do not devein their shrimp. I feel like when a shrimp is not deveined, it has that very unpleasant earthy taste to it. I strongly feel that restaurants MUST devein their shrimp. If you’re that lazy to the point where you dont even want to devein your shrimp, then you might as well close your business and cook for your family only for free. Also, they fried the shrimp with tails on. Lazy much? Lastly, they were extremely chewy because they were over cooked. This is just my opinion but this was the worst food I’ve ever eaten.

2. Black bean noodles tasted burnt. Now, I know the black noodles must be cooked on high fire to give it that smoky taste but this one, they went way too far with this smoky flavor because it tasted burnt. Not only that, veggies in the sauce were over cooked.

Conclusion: If I were you, I’d stick to Jang Won Ban Jim or Joong Hwa Won. NEVER FROM JOONGMI.
