⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review for The Crab Shack – Edgewater, MD

After a disappointing experience at The Crab Shack in Crofton—which ended with the manager issuing us a gift card for the entire meal—we decided to give the Edgewater location a try since it’s closer to home. And we are so glad we did.

From start to finish, the experience at the Edgewater location was excellent. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. Everything from the taste to the presentation was 100 percent on point. The staff was professional, friendly, and welcoming, and the restaurant itself was clean, well-kept, and inviting.

We are beyond pleased and truly impressed. This location has completely restored our trust in the brand, and we’ll definitely be coming to the Edgewater location from now on. Highly recommended!

Nice spacious restaurant with prompt and pleasant service. The crab cakes were 98% lump crab and so delightful. The crabs were sweet and fairly priced. Would love to come back next season!

Only complaint we (my son) have is the claw machine isn’t a guaranteed win. Legendary staff, great food (MUCH improved since opening years), outdoor seating with tiki umbrellas and a solid vibe at an affordable price. $5 tall boys and legit crushes (I’m an expert) means you can’t lose supporting this amazing small business!!

Orders are taken at the counter and can be brought to the table or to go. The boiled shrimp was excellent even though it is a self-peel; however, the restaurant makes it for easy peeling. The hush puppies were very tasty. Sadly, the Maryland Crab Soup with “lump” crab was very disappointing. There were no lumps of crab, in fact it was difficult to find crab. The soup should have been called Vegetable Soup with Hints of Crab” or “Tomato Soup with Vegetables and Maybe Some Crab if You are Lucky” since there were a LOT of tomato chunks and other vegetables and just a few slivers of crab. Over all, it is a good place to eat. The service was prompt and very good with friendly personnel.

09/09/2025 – I returned to give this restaurant a second chance, and I am glad I did!! This time I had a cup of the Cream of Crab Soup ($7), and it was excellent with nice-sized pieces of crab. I also had the steamed scallops ($17) which had more Old Bay seasoning on them than I preferred. I scraped most of the seasoning off, and they were perfect! An addition of iced tea made my meal perfect! With gratuity, my bill was close to $37, which was a little too pricey for me, but well worth it. The server, I believe, is the same gentleman who waited on me last year. He is very friendly and helpful. I was glad to see him again!

My girlfriend and I were out last Friday night and decided on crabcakes so we went to our favorite spot. We were pleasantly surprised. The gentlemen in the front let us know they were hosting a comedy night for $20 a ticket so we decided to stay. Best decision ever!! Professional stand up comedians who were very funny and appropriate comedy for everyone. It started around 8 PM and finished around 10 PM. This included happy hour priced drinks during the show. I was amazed at the level and experience of this show. It was right around the corner from home so can’t beat it! The gentlemen in the front let me know this is a once a month on the 3rd Friday of each month. I already have tickets for the next show. I hope more support this comedy night. Its a perfect night out!

Plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. Clean and the employees were very friendly. You order at the counter, then the food is brought to your table. We got the crab dip and Old Bay wings as appetizers. The dip was great tasting, but the plate of pita chip crumbles were a little disappointing. The wings were good, although they could’ve been slightly more crispy. We ordered the crab cake platter, the blackened tuna steak sandwich, and the fried fish sandwich as our entrees. All of them were excellent, although the tuna steak sandwich was a little dry. It’s served with a mango ginger salsa, which was very tasty, but could’ve used some sort of spread. The portion sizes are decent, although the coleslaw and potato salad sides were pretty small. It’s not inexpensive. They also don’t have their liquor license as of this post. I would go back.

My wife eat out a lot and I have been to the crab shack about five or six times now. And pretty much every time we’ve gone the food has been pretty good. Sometimes it’s a hit and miss with certain things and sometimes some things are spot on all the time. This review is based on our last two visits. Crabs, of course are their number one thing… But this is based on other things we’ve gotten on our past two visits.
On our first visit We ordered fish and oysters, and shrimp tacos. They were all very good except for the fish. A little overdone and you couldn’t even flake it with a fork and It was pretty tough. My wife got steamed oysters while I had gotten raw. The steamed were OK, not much flavor, and they were shrunk down a bit compared to my raw oysters. So we ordered another batch of raw oysters since she liked mine better than hers lol! Tacos spot on with banging flavor, I could eat them all day!
On her second visit, we were a little disappointed. The oysters were great they were raw and as they should be fresh with no smell and pretty much melt in your mouth. However, besides that came with it were supposed to be corn and french fries. All you can eat. They didn’t have corn, and they shouldn’t have it on the menu because that’s what I was expecting to get until they told us it wasn’t in season. The other problem was that night only one person was running around doing everything. We didn’t get an all you can eat anything. The worst of it was the french fries. I’m a burger and fries guy and I love a good french fries. They need to be crispy, light, airy, crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. These were heavy, oily, very greasy as if they were just soap and oil. I think that the fryer was not hot enough. I’ve made french fries at home and even when my french fries didn’t turn out as expected, they were still better than these. We did order a second batch just in case it’s better than the first. It wasn’t maybe a little less oily, but still felt like it was soaked in oil. Sad because I really was hoping these spies were gonna be good. Maybe next time! One thing I’ve learned about restaurants and eating out is that sometimes depending on who’s cooking or depending on how your food turns out. One night might be a bad night. Another night might be a good night, but you definitely don’t want reviews that are spotty you want them to consistent the fries should be cooked perfectly all the time then there would be no complaints. Haven’t said that, the next time I have some fries, I will definitely change my review as long as they are spot on and cooked perfectly.
So my final words are, a great joint most of the time. They’ll go out in beyond for making you something that might not be on the menu. And they do turn out better than decent free most of the time. But, as the saying goes, if you don’t let someone know, something is wrong, how will they know to fix it? Have a good day.

My husband was craving some snow crabs clusters. We heard there was an all you can eat option at The Crab Shack and decided to see if it was worth the hype. Walking in we were a little confused about how things worked but someone came out and walked us through it. There is a counter with menus, you decide what you want, place your order, pick a table, they come out paper it, and bring all the picking supplies you could need. With the all you can eat crabs we had a choice of snow crab clusters or Maryland blue crabs. You also get boardwalk style fries, corn on the cob and hushpuppies. Everything was outstanding. The snow crab clusters were huge and the blue crabs were nice and full and seasoned perfectly with Crab Shacks own blend of seasoning. I have lived in Maryland my whole life and they were some of the best crabs I have had in a long time. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We can’t wait to go back and try more of their extensive menu.

This place is awesome. Wait staff is great and very helpful with suggestions. Some of us had the boil special with shrimp, corn, potatoes, and blue crab. Tons of food for very reasonable. My wife had 5oz lump crab cake. A little small if you are hungry but reasonably priced. My sister had the king crab legs which was awesome. Several people were getting the all you eat crabs for $50. Definitely going back.
