I ordered the yellowtail jalapeno, volcano roll, and miso soup. Everything tasted fresh, miso soup not overly salty. The vibes were super cozy. Will be returning!
I ordered the miso soup, three different rolls, and a pork gyoza that was to die for. It disappeared so fast I didn’t even take a picture.
All the fish tasted fresh and the prices for the regular rolls are actually quite nice. Worth a try if you live in the area and like sushi / ramen.
We started with a sushi tempura roll and a Valentine specialty roll. Ingredients were very fresh but the valentine roll didn’t have enough to justify the higher price.
The Tonkotsu ramen was good, not great. The ingredients all tasted good but the broth could’ve had more flavor; I expected a more rich pork flavor.
Still worth a stop.
It does not look like much from the outside, or the inside for that matter. But, the quality of the food and sushi absolutely makes up what they may lack in ambiance.
My wife and I have easily spent thousands per month on seeking the best sushi and omakase here in the states with some meals costing over $700 and I say this with zero reservations that Asahi is on par with the finest sushi and Michelin rated restaurants in Manhattan.
They receive their fish from the same suppliers that supply the top Sushi spots in the city and their prices are beyond reasonable.
We eat here typically weekly.
Let’s start with the basics:
We usually start with either the miso or clear soup. Both are excellent choices with delicious and flavorful broths.
We skip appetizers and go for rolls and our own selection of individual pieces.
We always get at least two O-toro bluefin handrolls chopped with scallion.
They pack these rolls to the gills with the finest quality O-toro. These rolls are off the charts amazing!! I have yet found another sushi spot 5 star or less who makes a better O-toro negitoro handroll. We sometimes also get a negitoro roll as well plus a yellowtail scallion roll.
We then order a number of pieces:
Hamachi: some of the best, firm yet tender and what a wonderful flavor
Artic Char: rare to find. Very fresh, similar to salmon
Alaskan King Salmon: rare to find – excellent flavor
Scallops: very sweet, very fresh, incredibly good
Botan Ebi: they prepare these very well. Using outstanding sweet ebi
Seared Salmon Belly: not many sushi restaurants have salmon belly. And most are terrible at preparing it. They serve the best and prepare it very well.
All pieces are cut generously.
The only thing they could use some work on is their sushi rice. But, for the most part it is fine. That is simply a minor critique to help the establishment continue with its dedicated pledge of providing the best overall experience.
Overall you will be hard pressed to find a better quality sushi experience.
