My opinions from a summer 2025 visit.
– small, informal. One large table had two couples who didn’t know each other. Maybe you enjoy communal dining. We don’t and were happy to get a small table. Keep that in mind when making reservations. We love restaurants in small settings such as The Wolf (Oakland) or Chez Panisse, but we thought Rhody was a bit cramped.
– drinks and service was VERY good! Almost perfect.
– food was good. Not great or memorable. My king salmon was not very fresh. It was “fishy” (more on that below).
Full disclosure: my friend dined here late Summer 2025, and his visit was the catalyst for my review. He fishes about 250 days/year, used to work in the industry, lived in Alaska before moving to Washington State, and processes/packages his weekly catch at home. Not that it matters, but he has a family member with a doctorate in Fisheries. This guy knows fish whereas I just know how to eat it.
When he replied to Rhody’s follow-up email about the “fishy” salmon, Rhody wrote “the fish tasted like fish…don’t know what to make of that” and inserted a neutral smiley face. “Fishy fish” is different than “the fish tasted like fish.” Anyone who knows fish knows the difference.
Whomever emailed my friend either does not know that “fishy” is not in the freshest condition and/or that person does not know how to handle feedback. Why send a post-visit email asking for feedback if your reply is a neutral smiley face and a flippant “…don’t know what to make of that.” Maybe put some effort into “knowing what to make of that”: look into the quality of your seafood such as when you received it, how long the boat had it, was it frozen from the previous seating/has it been in storage longer than a week, etc.
I did not reply to Rhody’s email after our summer visit because I knew we would not be returning. I feel bad for not telling my friend about the visit. Could’ve saved him an expensive plate of salmon nearing its “best by” date, they have other entrees which are much better. I recommend the delicious vegetable risotto!
– We left after 2.5 hours, our meal was not entirely finished. We travel globally for food, and enjoy slow cooked meals, French and Basque our faves, but 2.5 hours at Rhody is too long for us. After the apps, entrees take 30 minutes. I guess it’s better than food coming out in 10 minutes courtesy of a heat lamp. Our server suggested we go for a walk.
Overall I’d give our dining experience a 7 out of 10. Total cost was $350 including tip which is absurd and not a good value in my opinion.
Patio dining is awesome, service was very good. We’re simply giving it a 5 Star ⭐️ ⭐️
Food was ok not seasoned.
Drinks were good, coffee was hot.
They are not sanitizing the tables properly before the next person sits. It’s expensive for what it is.
