At our Lake City, SC location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Fast-food chain serving fried fish & shrimp combo meals along with gumbo & funnel cakes.

Have tried this location once a year for past 5 years. With poor results. Just door dashed for the first time. Food was hot well made and delicious. I will go often as long as this is the quality. Very happy for first time here .

Never been so disappointed in Captain D’s, I’ve eating at several of these places, Goose Creek, Summerville, and Charleston SC location’s, the last time I’ve been into a Captain D’s before this time was about a year ago, this was the first time of me getting take out at the Lakecity SC location, I had gotten 2 of the 10 piece family fish meals, coming in the door the cashier greeted my wife and I with welcome to Captain D’s, that was on only welcome we had, the cashier took our orders and acted as if it were a burden to take the order, after receiving our order we drove about a mile from there to our home, the fish seemed to be some kind of prepared fish, not flakey like the other Captain D’s fish, it was like eating chicken strips with a fish flavor, the Mac and cheese was cold, the coleslaw has a strange taste (haven’t quite figured out what the strange taste is) after spending $77.06 for food at this location with sorry service and food makes me re-think about ever going to another Captain D’s, note I had gone here to get dinner for our family to keep from cooking something at home, this food I got from Captain D’s after trying eat it went into the garbage and we still had to cook dinner, I may try Captain D’s again in one of the other locations that I’veeating at, but never will I return to the Lakecity location, people at this location seem to be there only for a paycheck $77.00 dollars in the garbage.

On July 28, 2025 I went to the restaurant at 10;30 a.m. It was closed and opened about 5 minutes late. I am an emergency care instructor trainer and had been recruiting in the area. When I entered, the atmosphere was not friendly. The cashier made racist remarks about white people and was very rude, The cashier then would not pick up money from the counter near the register, would not reach out for the money, and it had to be put into her hand. I checked the food best I could, before leaving. I was concerned for the food safety including the possibility of disease transmission and still am concerned. I have filed complaints with appropriate agencies.

Their fired fish was pretty good. Staff needs more training though. He kept forgetting what we ordered

It used to be good in Lake City but last two times the food is extremely over cooked. Couldn’t even eat it. Three plates and the shrimp $37 down the drain. And this has been twice for us. Florence sc captain d’s has still been really good.

I always would go here to get a Tilapia dinner. This time, during my lunch break, I stop here for lunch. Went through the drive-threw. got my food within a timely manner. I get home (I work from home) and I open my plate and this is what I got. the fish was burnt so badly, when I remove the fish, it burned a hole in the plate. The burnt taste was all over the fish and it was on my rice. I had to use a lot of tarter sauce just take away some of the burnt taste. Also, my roll was completely hard! Stiff! The only thing that was good was the green beans. that’s it. I didn’t try the cole slaw yet because I was annoyed with the whole dinner. This was very distasteful!

For Mother’s Day all I wanted was fish and chips! Went for lunch.
The woman that was managing was amazing! They were under staffed and she made it all happen!
The fish was good and the shrimp was so tasty! Nice experience!

Food was usually pretty good but service was often horrible. The speaker at drive up was barely audible and the employee at window was like a zombie. Not even sure he knew his own name!! Dining room frequently closed for lack of staff. These are likely the reasons the location here in Myrtle Beach closed permanently. The number of locations are diminishing rapidly including those in tourist locations like Myrtle Beach so one has to wonder if the co is going out of business totally.
