A cute little diner which is fine if you don’t have high expectations. Our service was off to a very slow start. We were within a minute or two of leaving. However, when our waiter did show up, he did a good job from there. Both items we wanted from the specials menu were not available, so we didn’t get to try those. We ordered wedding soup and got served chili instead. The menu is limited. Overall, the food was ok, but there is no reason for us to go back.

This is a diner. Recently renovated. All chairs and benches reupholstered. Drapes gone so a lot more light and airy. Outdoor tables in a covered patio. They use a back room for larger parties. Takeout window still in use. Kitchen and bathrooms rebuilt. Has a computerized menu system. Vibe is good and lively. Was packed at noon many months out from reopenning under new owners. Staff is very friendly but has not found its groove yet. I sat at the counter. Soon had my shake. Took a while to order meal, but then service was good. Had breakfast. Sunny side eggs average (slightly overcooked), extra crispy bacon could be held horizontally without bending, toast was barely toasted, hash browns were awesome. Had to ask for ketchup. Portion size is moderate. Perhaps slightly larger than prior owners.

Service took a minute to wind up, but friendly. Food is solid but definitely stacks up against what I can make at home.
Only real quibble? First time I ever ordered ham as a breakfast side and instead of ham steak it was….chopped lunch meat style?

I hadnt been to the chef since it reopned, i was apprehensive that it wouldnt feel like the original which I knew and loved. I was wrong, while the furniture is renewed and the building remodelled, this is still the Chef-O-nette I know and love! food was great, atmosphere was totally diner like and the service top!. great diner-style breakfast in a nice neighborhood. being connected to a shopping center makes parking a breeze, i look forward to more visits at the Chef! you can call ahead and make a reservation if you are bringing a large group, they have a nice party room in the back for groups. single diners are treated well here esp if you sit at the diner-bar.

I hadn’t been here since before the renovation. What I liked it about it before was how it took me back to my childhood, a real old school diner. It was like stepping back in time.
Now, post renovation, I like it because our food was diner greatness (juicy hamburger, tuna salad on sourdough bread with wonderful onion rings).
The staff was friendly and hardworking (that kitchen was clean!). I didn’t feel rushed and our server was especially thoughtful.
Reasonable prices throughout the menu- how refreshing.
I’m charmed all over again and will definitely be back. The updates make it look fresh and clean but still with plenty of nostalgia. Anyone looking for good retro background photo ops should definitely stop in.

The “Chef” had its genesis in the mid to late 1950s as an anchor to the then brand new Tremont Center. Ownership has changed hands over the years and a couple years ago as the current owners were retiring and wishing to sell, another well known local restauranteur stepped up to not only purchase, but to renovate and continue the classic mid-century vibe. The menu is breakfast and lunch and every dish that I have tried is as good or better than it was 40 years ago. I guess that dates me. Haha! Reasonable pricing, great service. Very casual and family friendly. Eight thumbs up!

A great diner burger! No frills, just good! 5 stars for the cost, quality and speed. I had a 4 year old with me so I appreciated being in and out in under 25 minutes.

It’s a diner. Nothing too fancy like Littleton’s. It’s a good, simple, cheap for he area diner. What else do you need to know? They have outdoor seating, counter seating, tables, booths…

The food was delicious and a great value. The Hangover burger had thinly-shaved ham on top, and adding onion rings still keeps everything under $12. My wife’s Western Onmelet that was packed with ham and veggies.
If I had any complaint, the food is somewhat basic fare…but it’s thoughtfully done, the atmosphere is one-of-a-kind and service was awesome. Just feels like a nice, local establishment that’s well-priced and leaves you satisfied.
