Toads Tavern is your “Home away from Home”. It’s always a great place to hangout and have a drink, plenty of TV’s for sports and they also have board games to play. Toads also has one of the best yearly Chili Cook Off Competitions in the Des Moines area. Toads has also won numerous Best of Des Moines City View awards.

I’m going to this place since I was probably 10 or 11 years old with my parents and by myself now as I’m older adult I’ve been going in there for about 25-30 years and it’s always been pleasurable The new owner since 2005 or so are very awesome also always there to help you always there to please you treat you as you are one of their own also and the crowd crowd’s good too they tend to get along with everybody usually and everything is just great when you go in there it’s a fun time and I enjoy being there whether I’m drinking or not

I left my card as a tab and when I went to cash out she claimed I couldn’t use my called to pay and said I needed yo pull cash out of the ATM. I told her I wouldn’t do that as I wasn’t paying extra for cash. She yelled at me several times, told me I was stuflpid and then tried keeping my card. When my friend said he would buy another beer and pay the tab, she gave him a beer and kicked us out with the beer. As far as I know that is illegal to leave a bar with a full opened beer. I will never go there again. Server were very rude. Do not recommend.

This was a great place and visited there two night in a row. I had ordered a pizza had they let me take the pizza….pan and all with me. I took it back, much to their surprise. I had several drinks and made some new friends. People were very welcoming and friendly I like that about a bar. I like the smokers pit .. it’s relaxing.
