I had the good fortune of discovering Black Cat Diner while traveling to Salem October 9-10! The food was top tier and the variety of food to choose from on the menu was impressive. There was a great work balance between the chef and the server(s), along with witty banter shared with the locals who clearly love this diner. My server was extremely busy but was still very attentive while finding some time to flirt a little as well, it made the experience next to perfect!
I enjoyed breakfast here both mornings I was in Salem and look forward to enjoying breakfast here again in the future! Keep on slinging great food and service guys, and I look forward to seeing the cute server who took my order again in the future as well!

The vibes here are everything! We arrived on a hot hot Thursday afternoon while they were slow but that just meant more time to mingle with the staff and the regulars. Jen and Day were so accommodating, helpful, funny and kind. We truly felt so welcomed, like we had been coming here for years!
There is some real charm in this old train car from the hand written menus to the dry erase board of specials to the way you can see everything going on while your food is prepared with Selena playing on the radio. I just loved this place so much. The food delivers and absolutely ups the whole experience. It’s just so dang good! Bonus! Plenty of hot sauce to go around!
The space was clean and well cared for and the food options could satisfy any desire for breakfast and lunch! As a black cat owner myself, I had so much love for the decor and atmosphere. They do have their own lot in back for parking, just be mindful of where you park!
Casual conversation aplenty, delicious food and good vibes all around, I will think of this place fondly for years to come! ⬛

My family and I traveled from Michigan to the Salem area for a wedding. We were so glad we picked this spot to get breakfast. We had great food and enjoyed sitting up at the bar watching all of the action. The staff was so friendly and helpful. If I return to the area I will definitely be back!

I have to say it’s very worth the wait this morning. The way we were greeted and welcomed in is a whole vibe, our waitress was on point with the order. Her smile, attitude and attention to detail made our first experience beyond our expectations. The breakfast was delicious and will be back for sure. Thank you

I got the Irish eggs Benedict. Good to maybe really good breakfast food, nothing fantastic. Hollandaise sauce lacked lemon, but was very good with the corned beef hash. The corned beef hash and red bliss potatoes were great, just the hollandaise was not as lemony as I would like. Another con was the cleanliness. It felt very dirty on the inside. I recommend this place if you are hungry during breakfast time. The portions are big and the food is filling.

I absolutely love places like this! Small, cozy, friendly staff, greasy spoon, and great food. This place reminded me of a local place in wisconsin called franks diner. Same size. Counter space and a couple tables. Some of the finest breakfast food you can find. I had the breakfast club sandwich and my mom had the Bixby Benedict. Both were delicious! Would definitely go back here if given the chance.

My husband and I ate here on a Sunday morning, so there was a bit of a wait which we kind of expected because it’s such a small place. It was so worth the wait. I got eggs Benedict and my husband got a hamburger. He said this was his favorite meal in our four day trip to Salem. All of the staff were so welcoming and friendly.

This was the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had!! The eggs were cooked perfectly, hollandaise was so delicious, and potatoes were great too. The fresh squeezed lemonade was definitely worth it too. The service was incredible and all the workers were nonstop hustling. I highly recommend this place!!

What can I say about this place?! It was DELICIOUS!!! And the way the locals love and support them is incredible!
Just know, you get quite a lot of food no matter what you order! The waffles are big Belgian waffles, the Salem Club was perfect with a drizzle of syrup on it, the home fries, chocolate milk, and lemonade were fabulous as well!
The Black Cat Diner will be our go-to diner anytime we come back to Salem. The service was great diner service, and sitting at the counter watching Jenny do her magic was fire for me!
*Fair warning: the restaurant is not accessible, but their takeaway would be worth it.* (it’s historic, so I’m guessing there’s regulations on changing it.)

We were searching for a spot while visiting Salem for Halloween, and we were not disappointed. The food was great, the staff were kind and entertaining, and the cook was fast and efficient, made making omelets like an art form. It’s a place to stop by when you’re in Salem to start your day, we would go back the next time we’re in town.
