I recently visited Ted & Marie’s Colonial Inn Restaurant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The ambiance was that of a classic diner, and the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. My server was very nice and efficient, taking my order promptly. I opted for the Colonial Club, a ham club sandwich, with a side of fries. The sandwich was delicious, especially the ham. The crinkle-cut fries were also a hit. Overall, the food was good and reasonably priced. However, I did find the menu to be somewhat limited, lacking some diner staples like open-faced sandwiches. Despite this, I would go back again.

I had the Ted and Marie’s omelet. It had cheese and sausage gravy inside. Pretty darn tasty!

The food is amazing! The portions are huge compared to other places in the area. It’s tucked in between other businesses so it can be easy to miss, but it’s well worth going.

Synopsis: Old school dining meets friendly service and a(mostly) inexpensive breakfast. No debit or credit cards- cash only!
Review: I’ve driven past Ted and Marie’s many times and always wondered what awaited me inside. Today was the day to explore!
I was greeted by a scent of sour smoke and slightly dingy walls…you can tell smoking was allowed here- perhaps even required at some point in its history. There were a group of regulars joking with the waitress and cook. It definitely has a small town feel.
The waitress was friendly and quick to serve up a coffee refill.
I ordered the special – 2 eggs, toast, potatoes, and bacon – for $5.95. A decent deal! I also ordered a half-order of biscuits and gravy. Gluttony, in the name of a Google review isn’t really gluttony.
The first part of my breakfast was great- eggs were perfect, toast buttered and tasty, bacon not so crispy as to crumble upon touching it, and the potatoes were on par.
The biscuits and gravy, however…two small biscuits swimming in an off color, watery sausage gravy. Flavor was fine, but it did not look appetizing. For just over $4 I was hoping for a fluffier biscuit. Avoid the biscuits and gravy.
As others said, this is a cash only joint.
All in all, for less than $6 (not including coffee) you can get a decent breakfast with good service. However, the dates and smoked atmosphere detracts slightly from the experience. With so many other options I don’t know if I’ll be back, but this place works in a pinch if you don’t want to break the bank.

Very quiet and cozy. I had an omelette which was very good, better than most breakfast restaurants. Toast was average quality. Prices were about average. Good place to eat.
