Akagi sushi provides great service, tasty food, and large portions. The lunchtime bento special was delicious and way more food than I could finish in one sitting. Highly recommend this spot for its great value!

This afternoon, I had lunch with friends and family. My wife and I chose the lunch special, but we were a bit disappointed because the teriyaki chicken was a little overcooked and dry. The grilled salmon was also the same, so it wasn’t very tasty. The tempura, however, was still okay.

We’ve been going for years, since teenager years. A long established local favorite. The restaurant has changed a bit as expected but still is a relatively good value. On weeknights, usually there’s no more waiting an hour plus outside after writing your name on the wait list, so maybe that’s a good thing for hungry customers.

It’s a good local Japanese restaurant. No frills, just good comfort food. The service was spotty, and I had to ask multiple times for our drinks. One server had a permanent scowl on her face. PRO TIP, – get the specials.

Marco made my experience feel like home. This little Japanese spot is a nice getaway from the madness of the bay. The parking can get a little tricky but it’s totally worth it. Inside is a small but cute dinning area. Their prices are more than fair for the quality and quantity of food you get. My order came out in like 10 minutes which is decently quick for what I ordered. I had the chicken teriyaki and two sushi rolls..highly suggest the lion king roll! The food came out fresh and hot off the grill. Overall this place surprised me and it’s worth checking out while catching a break from the traffic.

Good, not great japanese food at very affordable prices. I always get the 3 item special where you get to choose 3 meat and or fish items with rice for under $20. Kinda like a japanese Applebee’s.

The chicken teriyaki tend to get over cooked and they don’t give enough short ribs but you still can’t get such a deal for under $20. Restaurant is a San Bruno legacy.

I ordered the Deluxe Bento … There 2 things I didn’t care for, but doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good . It wasn’t for tasting pallet. Everything else was super delicious . Great atmosphere, tables greatly spaced apart, and great service! I definitely want to go back!

I was wondering why everybody was going here instead of the place next door. I went to place my order and it was packed. There were people even waiting to be seated. They had to servers/waitress and they were just busy tending to everyone. It took a few minutes until someone took my order.
As I waited for my order, I couldn’t help but look around. They had the menu everywhere around the walls. They had a small section in the back where you can sit and order sushi. While you’re there, you can watch them make sushi. They were even conversating with the customers. Usually some places just ignore you and make sushi. Not here.
I was handed the bill and I was shocked at how affordable it was. I figured we’ll see with the taste test.
We ordered:
Amaebi roll – so fresh and sweet
Crunchy roll – my oh my this is definitely crunchy. You gotta make sure to open wide for this one. The cream cheese gives it a perfect creamy balance with all the crunchiness
Dragon roll – Deeeeelicious, this one is made with the seaweed on the outside which is different from what I’ve had at other places
California roll – I was surprised how something so simple tasted so good
Seaweed salad – I recommend this. It goes with every item I ordered
Gyoza – Tasted flavorful and fresh. Like it was homemade. You didn’t even need the ponzu sauce they provided
2 item dinner – double beef teriyaki. The beef was so tender. My husband couldn’t stop eating it.
3 item dinner – tonkatsu, momiji, short rib teriyaki. Short rib, you can taste the char. Nothing I expected from a Japanese restaurant. Tonkatsu was crunchy, not overly battered. Monmiji was something different for me. It was super tender.
Honestly, I highly recommend this place. It is reasonably priced and the food was AMAZING!!

I think one of the greatest things about living in the Bay Area is being able to try all types of restaurants and food. But, I also have my steady “go-tos”. These are places I go to atleast once every month.
Akagi is one of those places. I go for their bento boxes and their simple sashimi plate. Very generous portions, delicious food, and excellent prices!
