I recently went to Base Camp in Cardiff for a Valentine’s Day dinner, and I wanted to share my experience honestly. I ordered the Sherpa Chilli Wings understand they might be tailored to the British palate, but personally, I didn’t enjoy them. The flavour didn’t hit for me, it seemed tandoor-cooked, but the taste was underwhelming.
Next, I tried the Lamb Pahadi. The meat was tender, which I appreciated, but the gravy was very light. The first couple of bites were okay, but it got too tomatoey and slightly sweet for my liking.
The Nepali Roti was a highlight really well done and enjoyable. I also tried Patra nu Machhi (a Parsi delicacy), but honestly, it didn’t work for me.Overall, while the food had some good points, I felt the taste didn’t match the price it was quite expensive for what was served and very small portions as well.

What an amazing new find! This Indian restaurant impressed us with both its flavors and its hospitality by Ram and his team. The manager Ram greeted us with a big smile, made us feel instantly welcome, and personally recommended some of the chef’s specialties — and he didn’t miss! We started with a crisp papadum basket and the standout Palak Patta Chaat, which was bursting with flavor and texture. For mains, we had Royale Paneer, Dal Makhani, and a spicy Veg Vindaloo, perfectly paired with a fragrant Chilli Coriander Naan that was customized to our spice level. Everything was cooked to perfection and full of authentic Indian taste. The complimentary kulfi at the end — along with warm brownies and vanilla ice cream — was the sweetest finishing touch. Exceptional service, delicious food, and a team that truly cares about your experience — can’t wait to come back!

Had a wonderful evening at the Base Camp. We tried their vegan tasting menu and can highly recommend it. The starter plate was one of the best plates of food I’ve had. When we explained that we are vegetarians we got offered to add paneer to our menu – great service! Momma (I think) was my favourite thing to eat that night. I was full before the mains – we had 4 curries which were very very good but not mind blowing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish the desert but we had 4 different options that night and I tried a bit of everything and it was perfect. Great atmosphere, nicely decorated, lovely staff. Thanks a lot to all the team. I think there is potential to become a destination restaurant in future.

My new favourite restaurant. Third trip there and it’s just so good. Staff are always so friendly and attentive, food is bursting with flavour and it’s lovely and relaxed environment.

Lovely place to come. Food was delicious. The price was right for 2 people, about £35 each. Staff were attentive and friendly, but not overly attentive which was perfect. A good selelction of dishes on the menu, which were cooked extremely more, sometimes less is more. Wait time was perfectly acceptable. Cleanliness was superb and there were some nice touches added to the restaurant, such as coat stands etc. The ambience was great. We both had a lovely time.

This is the best Indian food I have had outside of Indian. Maybe even better than some places IN India. Everything was truly authentic from the food to the service and hospitality. If you have ever been to India and want somewhere to relive the flavours you experienced, then Base Camp India Kitchen is where you should go. If you have never been to India, you will want to book a flight straight after being here. Ram and his team really have done an amazing job. Keep up the amazing work!

Amazing restaurant! I honestly can’t stress enough how good the food, vibes, and overall hospitality were. The place serves delicious Indian and Nepali cuisine, and every dish was full of flavour and perfectly prepared.

So delighted to come across this place. Service was quick, yet we didn’t feel rushed! Food was delicious – freshly cooked, original and interesting menu – best Indian I have eaten! Very well-priced, particularly when considering the quality! Highly recommended!
