Raul’s BBQ – Honest Review

I gave Raul’s BBQ a fair shot, stopping by four days in a row hoping to catch them on a good day. Unfortunately, while the food itself is decent (I’d give it a 3 out of 5), the overall experience leaves a lot to be desired.

First, be aware that there is no parking, which makes getting there a hassle. On top of that, their card machine is constantly down, so it’s cash only—something they assured me would be fixed “tomorrow” each day I visited, but never was.

Another major issue is the language barrier. The staff only speak Spanish, which I usually don’t mind, but in this case, they’re unwilling to work with anyone unless you speak it fluently. This made ordering and resolving any questions pretty frustrating.

Service? 2 out of 5.
Atmosphere? 1 out of 5—there’s not much to say there other than it feels unwelcoming.

Bottom line: The food might be okay, but it’s just not worth the hassle. Good luck to anyone trying it for themselves—you’ll need it.

Great barbacoa. Favorite place since I was a kid. Prices are high, but it is what it is.

Parking is tight.

Good idea to place an order before arriving .

The pico de gallo is perfect, just acidic enough to cut the richness of the barbacoa.

Make sure to double bag your order to prevent the manteca from permiating.

Overpriced and greasy! This used to be one of the best place to get barbacoa years ago but nowadays you have to stand outside in a line to order & pick you food. I bought 1.5 pounds of barbacoa & it was over $27, that didn’t even include any tortillas or cabbages. If anyone want better tasting barbacoa for the value, I suggest getting from Lira’s & Taco Palenque instead.
