We tried the Pain Killer and Bloody Mary. Both were fantastic. For a waterfront town dive bar style place, they nailed the cocktails.
We ordered the crab dip for an appetizer. It was fantastic. Creamy, flavor-packed, with crisp, fried pita to scoop— definitely a good choice.
For food we had the burger, founder sandwich, and ahi tuna appetizer with a salad.
The burger- it was good. I think it was frozen, but it was a good size and the toppings were fresh. I wouldn’t say it blew us out of the water, but it is a reliable choice.
The flounder sandwich? Best of the lot. Fresh local fish, nicely done, perfectly fried, great sandwich overall. Would highly recommend.
The ahi tuna with a salad? Fresh and delicious — tuna cooked just right, salad crisp, dressing (especially the homemade ranch). Would highly recommend.
For service & atmosphere: The place has a relaxed waterfront with friendly service. Don’t be in a hurry. Everything comes out in a slow pace. But the food and drinks were great. If you’re looking for fine dining it’s not that — but if you want good food by the water in a friendly setting, this hits.
Ive included the updated menu in my photos. The prices no where justify the quantity or taste of the food here.
The restaurant’s prime waterfront location offers stunning views and sets the stage for an enjoyable meal. The service, too, was commendable, with attentive staff ensuring a fast and polite experience. However, the initial positive impressions were overshadowed by several disappointing factors.
While the service was prompt, the same cannot be said for the food. Despite the efficient service, there was an extensive wait for our meals to arrive. However, it’s worth noting that the grilled chicken stood out as a highlight, delivering on flavor and tenderness. Unfortunately, the overall quality of the dishes did not match the steep prices, leaving us feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.
**Outdoor Patio Atmosphere:**
Adding to the disappointment was the outdoor patio area, which was enclosed with plastic for the winter season. While understandable, what followed was unacceptable. Shortly before our food arrived, people began to smoke on the patio, where we were seated. As the crowd of smokers grew, the cigarette smoke permeated the air, overwhelming both the food and the atmosphere. This intrusion of smoke tainted what should have been a pleasant dining experience, leaving a sour taste in our mouths.
In conclusion, while Toucan Grill and Fresh Bar may boast a prime location and commendable service, the overall experience fell short of expectations. The slow arrival of food, coupled with mediocre quality and high prices, left much to be desired. However, the grilled chicken stood out as a highlight, showcasing the potential for excellence. Furthermore, the intrusion of cigarette smoke on the enclosed patio significantly detracted from the dining atmosphere. Unless improvements are made to address these issues, it’s difficult to recommend Toucan Grill and Fresh Bar as a dining destination, although it could easily earn a higher rating if not for the smokers’ presence.
not likely I’ll eat there again..they have to do better.
I ordered the Shrimp basket and the menu read, served with fries or sweet potato fries and slaw. However, when my plate came out, I ask about the fries and slaw and was told it didn’t come with it. Paid $20 for six shrimp but never again!!!
Menu prices were much higher than last time. We get it.. inflation.. but $20 for a burger and fries it should be better than average. Especially with other restaurants in town charging $9 for just as good or better.
Mahi mahi bites were shockingly greasy and very overcooked.
I couldn’t tell you what fish (or even if it was fish) in the tacos. Whatever protein it was, was cooked down to texture-less mush. The soft tortillas were hard almost to the point of crunchy.
The most negative part of the experience was the beginning. The hostess seemed utterly overwhelmed, despite there not being a large crowd. She was audibly cussing under her breath as she tried to figure out seating despite the presenceof small children near her. And only having 3 groups on the waitlist. She snapped at other staff. She also had everyone wait (up to half an hour) despite there being lots of open tables. It was so bad it almost became amusing.
Despite our earlier good experiences, and the valiant efforts of our waitress, we will likely not be returning.
