El Barril Mexican Sports Bar and Grill has a prime location in Mt. Adams at the corner of Pavilion and St. Gregory. My wife and I were in the mood to try something new to us, so we popped in for a dinner date.

The restaurant space is pretty large, especially for Mt. Adams. It’s sort of an indoor/outdoor location, with a large covered patio and large garage doors that open the indoor space in all directions. Certainly a nice place to visit when the weather is good, but the food is just as good as the location, and therefore worthy of a visit no matter the season.

My wife and I shared a pitcher of margaritas ($26.99 for the gold), and they were very tasty. Even though they were not prepared to order, it did seem that they had been prepared recently and had great fresh ingredients.

My typical Mexican restaurant order is the chimichanga. Theirs is a large tortilla, filled with shredded chicken, beans, and cheese, deep-fried, and topped with lettuce, guacamole, tomato, and sour cream. This is served with rice and beans ($15.25). This was very good and the ingredients were fresh!

My wife ordered the chile verde, a delicious plate of slow-cooked pork simmered in a savory green chile sauce. Again served with rice and beans, along with tortillas on the side ($18.50). Another really good dish, and one that is not very common in the Cincinnati area. Go give it a try!

One of the best sit down Mexican spots in the city yet not widely known. Every time I go, the whole group loves it, and every online order has been perfect, no matter what hour or platform. Indoor outdoor seating is pleasant year round, cool bar & interior. Their Nachos Carbon is a generous value if you want virtually every protein. The owner or GM is always around making sure everything is great and running properly. Solid drink deals too.

Don’t let parking be a discouragement, just take a lap and enjoy the nice view of homes and the river. Worst case scenario, park a street or two over and walk. So many great options for round 2+ nearby once you are on the hill and all very walkable.

To say i’m disappointed is an understatement. As someone who has worked years in customer service, I am not one to complain about the service of a restaurant, the mistakes of a waiter, or the low quality of food. I understand that it one “new” staff member can throw a wrench into the entire performance of a kitchen, and turn a good night…into a poor one.

However, when dining at the establishment tonight, with six other guests, our experience was abysmal. Did it take ten minutes to be greeted (with nobody waiting before us)…yes. Do I understand busy nights can cause this to happen…yes. It’s ok, we get it. Did it take 15 minutes to even acknowledge our table after being seated….yes…it’s fine…I understand. I’m even going as far to excuse it taking 45 mins to deliver a singular bud lite bottle (to a table full of waters). However, with us sitting down at 6:16 pm and not receiving foot until 7:50 pm, and then being scolded by the waiter for being frustrated, and told that we made aware at the beginning that it’s “not an express kitchen), blaming your customers who you checked on ONCE, in a span of an hour and half, before the food even was delivered, is unacceptable. Never in my life, have I even been scolded at by a waiter for checking on the status of six meals (3 burgers, a salad, and two quesadillas) when the wait time is over an hour and half. “It’s not my fault, I don’t control when the food comes out, don’t blame me” are selfish words used by a worker so save his own skin and try and rescue a tip.

I understand it was a Saturday at 6:00 pm, peak dinner times. However, a popular restaurant that is established should be able to handle six dishes, with at least six servers (i counted) and no wait time to be seated. Overall, I wouldn’t be nearly as upset and disappointed, if it weren’t for the actions of our server, who was accusatory to us as customers, acting as though he was morally superior, and if we were too “stupid” to understand how a restaurant works. Very very disappointed in this place. Will not return.

What a find for a great fall evening dinner on the patio. The weather was great. Service was super fast. We had the Barzon Burrito and Sweet Thai wings. Both were yummy. The burrito was massive and very sharable.

This place is always great. I’ve bee many times. Mount Adams has few options for food but this place is always solid and seems to always be open. They don’t just have Mexican food you can get burgers and pizza as well. Their drinks are good and the service is amazing. They’re extremely attentive and have lots of TVs for sports as well. The complimentary chips and salsa is excellent. One complaint is that it’s often cold inside.

It’s a great spot that punches above its weight for Mexican restaurants this close to the city. The carnitas are surprisingly great, and feels like it would be from a little hole in the wall spot. The staff is always super friendly and attentive, and it’s the same staff year over year.

The restaurant itself is very lively with a large projector playing sports and multiple TVs. The tables were greasy and the chips and salsa was underwhelming. The salsa was not fresh.

The chimichanga and quesadilla was greasy too. The restaurant food was underwhelming and not good Mexican for vegetarians especially.

This is such an amazing place! It’s my favorite spot in all of Cincinnati. Not only is it family friendly, it’s also the best spot to take my buddies for a good drink and soccer game night. It’s in the best area, the most beautiful area of Cincinnati, in my opinion. Family visiting from Las Vegas and California loved it here.!! ❤️❤️

I love this place and come here a lot. Chips and salsa hit the spot when I’m hungry after work or waiting for friends to join. Their $2 street tacos on Tuesdays are great (no frills but delicious meats).

The only bummer is minimal vegetarian options (just the cheese quesadilla right now) on an otherwise very large menu. I’d love to see more vegetarian options added but cant beat their current tacos and margs. Took my family here and had a blast. The servers are very kind and when we all got margs except my sister who doesn’t drink, our server was thoughtful enough to put one of the fun lights in her drink too! And sitting out on their covered patio is great for most of the year. Highly recommend.
