Cheerfully friendly service. I agree with reviewers from the Post and Washingtonian: Authentic, delicious Oaxacan offerings. Platings are very attractive. Attached is a photo of the Alambre Mixteco (chorizo and braised beef). Margaritas are offered with your choice of tequila or mezcal; I recommend the latter. I will be a regular.

Delicious food both times I’ve come here. Today I got the alambre de pastor and it was very tasty. I liked the mix of peppers and onions. The tortillas came out fresh. The fresh drinks are amazing not too sweet. We started off with the queso fundido and guacamole and they were quite filling. My mom and sister both got the enchiladas verdes and were quite pleased. The waiters here are very funny and always make it an entertaining time. We didn’t get dessert this time, but the tres leches is amazing! I can’t wait to return!

We literally ate too fast to take good pictures… because it was so delicious! Not to mention the hospitality — all of the staff were so kind and attentive. A group of five of us shared four dishes: the Tlayudas, Enchiladas Mixtecas, Carne Enchilada, and the Bistec Con Salsa Pasilla. All of them were amazing, full of flavor! The tortillas on the side were so fresh and felt homemade. We also had the tres leches cake and flan for dessert and they both did not disappoint. Th flan was rich and creamy, and the tres leches was just the right amount of moisture, not too sweet!! We will be coming back again!

Stopped by for dinner here. The atmosphere is quaint and the service was very prompt. The drinks were also good. However, we were underwhelmed by the food. To be clear, it wasn’t horrible. I ordered a variety of tacos and my wife had the mole. The tacos were fine, but nothing remarkable. The mole was similarly fine, but not a stand out. It’s possible we ordered the wrong things but from what I could tell these were staple dishes at this place. In all fairness, we’re spoiled former Californians who have frequented many, many tacquerias and taco trucks. For this area maybe this is the best place around, I don’t know.

If there’s one spot in Wheaton, Maryland that seriously wakes up your senses, it’s El Sabor Mixteco. This place isn’t just food it’s a whole vibe. The moment you walk in, the smell of meat grilling hits you hard, and you already know you’re about to eat really well.

Let’s talk tacos. The asada tacos are next level. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, with that smoky flavor that stays with you long after the last bite. The tortillas are warm, soft, and doing exactly what they’re supposed to do holding greatness together. Add some onion, cilantro, and a spicy salsa, and boom… instant obsession.

Now the chorizo tacos? Absolutely unhinged (in the best way). Bold, flavorful, a little spicy, and straight up addictive. One taco is never enough, you’ll say “just one more” at least three times. And then come the al pastor tacos: juicy, slightly sweet, perfectly balanced with pineapple. That sweet-and-savory combo? Yeah, it eats every time. You’ll catch yourself closing your eyes just to enjoy the moment.

And don’t sleep on the drinks. The beverages are fire super refreshing, perfectly balanced, and exactly what you need to cool down the heat and keep the flavor going. Every sip resets your palate and gets you ready for the next bite.

El Sabor Mixteco isn’t just somewhere you grab food it’s where you sit back, relax, and let authentic Oaxacan flavors do their thing. It’s the kind of place you hype up to your friends, the spot you bring people when you want to impress, the taco joint you keep thinking about days later.

If you’re in Wheaton or anywhere near Maryland you HAVE to check this place out. El Sabor Mixteco isn’t just serving tacos; they’re serving culture, passion, and straight-up flavor therapy. Once you try them, there’s no going back.

Great food and service! My group of 6 immediately felt welcomed by the staff. They explained the menu thoroughly and were really attentive and gracious throughout the meal. The food came out fast and was phenomenal — some of the best we’ve ever had! Definitely try out the tlayudas, bistec con salsa pasilla, and carne enchilada. A must visit!

Stopped in on a whim for the first time yesterday. We chose to eat here based on reviews and were not disappointed! Service was excellent and attentive. All the meats were so incredibly tender and juicy. One of the best lengua tacos I’ve had in the area. Nachos with carne asada were a hit. Enchiladas Verdes were very tasty with a tiny kick. Definitely recommend, & will be back.

Traditional Mexican dishes, with a focus on Oaxacan specialties. I thought everything we got here was quite delicious.

I found the staff to be exceptionally engaging, which enhanced the overall dining experience. They were not only friendly but also incredibly helpful in sharing how Mexicans traditionally enjoy their food. Their recommendations on which sauces to pair with different dishes elevated the flavors even further.

The artwork on the walls was really cool, adding a vibrant and cultural touch to the space.

If you’re looking for a place that serves authentic Mexican food with a welcoming atmosphere this is a great choice.

Five stars across the board. Incredibly friendly service, they were able to handle my toddler well even though he was in a mood and I had to take him outside to burn energy off a couple of times. Unfailingly gracious and excited about the food they were serving; deservedly so.

For me, the standout dish was the mole chicken, but everything we ordered (sopes, nopales, tlayudas, camarones) ranged from very good to wiggle-and-moan-a-bit in your seat.

Stellar experience, a gem, full throated and enthusiastic recommendation.
