From the moment we sat down, the service stood out. The staff worked as a true team — multiple servers made sure every table had what they needed, water glasses were never empty, and courses flowed perfectly. It felt like genuine hospitality rather than routine service, which made a big difference.
The meal itself was off the charts. They started us with a chunk of aged Parmesan, fresh bruschetta, warm bread, and fried zucchini for everyone — such a great touch and a perfect way to start the evening. Each dish that followed was even better than the last. The flavors were rich, fresh, and perfectly balanced — truly authentic Italian at its best. Every bite tasted like it was made from scratch and with care.
We’ve been to several Il Mulino locations over the years, and this one absolutely lived up to their reputation for incredible food and first-class service. If you love authentic Italian cuisine and want a dining experience that feels both upscale and welcoming, Il Mulino should be at the top of your list.
The highlight of the night was, without question, their 45-day dry-aged ribeye — perfectly seared, incredibly tender, and bursting with rich, deep flavor. It’s one of those rare dishes that makes you pause after the first bite just to appreciate how expertly it’s prepared. This, coming from someone who rarely deviates from their infamous lamb chops.
Equally impressive was the salt-crusted Bronzino, which arrived beautifully presented and filleted table side. The fish was unbelievably fresh, moist, and full of subtle Mediterranean flavor — simple, yet one of the best seafood dishes in Boca/Delray.
A helpful tip: be sure to tell your server at the beginning of your meal that you’d like the chocolate soufflé for dessert (this was new). It takes about 30 minutes to prepare, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. The soufflé arrives warm and airy, with a perfectly melted center that pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla gelato.
What truly elevates Il Mulino beyond other fine dining experiences, however, is the incredible staff. The servers are remarkably attentive, anticipating your needs before you even have to ask, and John Gonzalez, the manager & maître d’ is second to none — gracious, accommodating, and always willing to find a way to squeeze you in, even on the busiest nights. Once you’re seated, they all go above and beyond to make sure your experience is flawless. Quick note – their staff retention is impressive, you can expect to see the same warm, professional and inviting faces every time you come.
From start to finish, Il Mulino delivers excellence — world-class food (just like they do in Sunny Isles and NYC), genuine hospitality, and an atmosphere that makes every visit feel special. Whether it’s a for a romantic dinner, business meeting or a celebratory night out, this Italian gem never disappoints.
Highly recommended — 10/10 ALL DAY LONG!!!
When she did arrive, the vibe was less “Happy Valentine’s Day” and more “How dare you need service.”
We were shown a huge tray of bread we’re allowed to pick one small slice of bread each. About 70 minutes into the meal, we had enjoyed one piece of bread and two ravioli each. Final dish came it was just awful and did not taste like real meat or steak.
So $345 for a slice of bread each, wrong appetizer, 2 raviolis and a slab of mystery meat. Treated with annoyance by our waiter and 150 minutes of time.
Service: painful. Food: confusing. Experience: unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. The saddest part was seeing my fiancé so disappointed on Valentine’s Day.
If you’re looking for a memorable evening filled with hunger, delays, and emotional damage, this is your place.
When we arrived, the general manager, Johnny, greeted us with a warm welcome. He recommended several dishes, and I chose the pasta special along with the caprese appetizer. Let me tell you, the food was absolutely delicious! Every bite was perfection. Not to mention the rice pudding for dessert. My girlfriends favorite dish of the night.
Throughout the evening, Johnny was extremely attentive, ensuring our experience was seamless. The service was impeccable—everything we needed was taken care of without having to ask. Henry and the entire staff was friendly and efficient.
I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an unforgettable Italian dining experience!
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality made us feel at home. The place felt alive, beautifully designed, a great crowd, and that unmistakable energy of people genuinely enjoying themselves.
Everything flowed. The octopus was excellent, the carbonara classic and truly memorable, and the bread, butter, and cocktails… dangerously good.
John’s hospitality set the tone, the team was gracious and attentive, and Henry went above and beyond to make us feel pampered.
Leave room for dessert.
An Absolute Masterclass in Italian Dining
From the moment I arrived of Il Mulino, I was not just a guest; I was part of a culinary performance. Nestled in the heart of Boca, this restaurant remains the gold standard for upscale Italian cuisine, offering an experience that is as generous as it is sophisticated.
The Legendary Welcome One of the hallmarks of Il Mulino is the “ritual of the table.” Before I ever opened my menu, a parade of attentive servers arrives with complimentary treasures: giant shards of aged Parmigiano Reggiano, crispy fried zucchini, house-made bruschetta, and their famous garlic bread. It sets a tone of abundance and hospitality that is rare to find elsewhere.
The Menu Highlights The food is spectacular. While the menu is extensive, a few dishes are non-negotiable:
The Polpo alla Griglia (Octopus)
This is, quite simply, a masterclass in texture. It’s grilled to achieve that perfect, smoky char on the outside while remaining incredibly tender—never chewy. It’s seasoned with just enough lemon and olive oil to let the quality of the seafood shine. It is the essential way to start your meal. Best in South Florida.
The Signature Pasta & “The Meatball”
Then, there’s the pasta, but I as there for the meatball. The meatball “has its own atmosphere”—a culinary planet. It’s massive, perfectly seasoned, and impossibly moist, sitting atop a bed of perfectly al dente pasta. I asked the waiter to bring the heat with a spicy diavlo sauce. Just perfect,
Costoletta alla Parmigiana:
This isn’t your average parm. It’s a massive, pounded veal chop that is tender, perfectly breaded, and large enough to be the talk of the table.
Atmosphere & Service
The ambiance strikes the perfect chord between romantic and lively. With white tablecloths and dim lighting, it’s ideal for a milestone anniversary, yet the energetic “team service” ensures the room feels vibrant and never stuffy. The staff operates like a well-oiled machine—your water is never empty, and your next course arrives at the exact moment you’re ready for it.
The Verdict
Il Mulino isn’t just a meal; it’s an event. If you want to impress a date, celebrate a win, or simply remind yourself what world-class service looks like, this is the place. It’s pricey, yes—but in a world of “fine dining” pretenders, Il Mulino is the real deal.
Thank Johnny to you and your staff
