It’s definitely worth it to visit this locally owned and operated bakery and avoid the big box stores and their processed desserts. I highly recommend Apple Annie’s Bakery.
Apple Annie’s is hands down one of the best bakeries in Wilmington, NC, especially if you love cakes and desserts. Their cakes are always fresh, beautifully decorated, and incredibly flavorful, and the desserts are consistently amazing without being overly sweet.
Everything tastes homemade with high-quality ingredients, and you can tell they take real pride in their baking. Whether you’re picking up a custom cake, dessert for a special occasion, or just a sweet treat, Apple Annie’s never disappoints.
If you’re searching for a top bakery in Wilmington North Carolina known for exceptional cakes and desserts, this is the place. Highly recommend!
Update: came back and tried the turtle brownie and cheesecake. It was just alright. I took a bite of the cheesecake before the picture. The cheesecake wasn’t light and creamy like I was hoping for. It was a typical kind of dense cheesecake. I would stick to having what I ordered the first time.
I really wanted to give Apple Annie’s another chance after a disappointing birthday cake I received earlier this year, but unfortunately, they let me down again—this time on my nephew’s 10th birthday.
I ordered a custom Michael Myers-themed cake for his Halloween birthday. I called to place the order and was quoted $40 for the decoration and $37 for the cake itself, totaling $80.54 after tax. I was happy to pay for a custom cake, especially since I wanted it to look great and taste better than the dry cake I had previously received from their display case.
I made it very clear during the order that the cake should not contain any chocolate, as my nephew doesn’t like it. I requested a white cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and agreed to a vanilla pudding filling when it was offered. What I received was not what I ordered: the filling was vanilla buttercream, not pudding, and there was chocolate icing on the bottom of the cake. When I called to complain, I was told they don’t even offer vanilla pudding as a filling—so why was it offered to me in the first place?
The decoration was also a huge letdown. The cake was hand-frosted with what was supposed to be a Michael Myers design, but the result was unrecognizable. Even my nephew said, “That doesn’t look like Michael Myers—it looks like some other Michael.” Sadly, I didn’t have time to request a redo, as I picked up the cake at 3 PM the day of the party. I accepted it as-is, but I was not happy.
The only positive was that the cake wasn’t dry this time. But that’s not enough to make up for the poor communication, incorrect ingredients, and subpar decoration—especially for the price I paid. I was told a manager would call me to resolve the issue, but I’ve yet to hear from anyone. It feels like they either don’t care or are too busy to follow up.
I feel like my nephew’s birthday was ruined. I put so much effort into making it special for him, and the cake was supposed to be the centerpiece. Instead, it became a disappointment. That’s a memory I can’t redo.
With my daughter’s birthday coming up in January, I’ll be looking elsewhere. Apple Annie’s has gone downhill, and I won’t be giving them another chance.
