I’m sorry I try not to leave reviews like this unless it’s really bad. The sushi I had was TERRIBLE. Fish was old and hard, spicy tuna was too fishy, rice was not good. The roll was huge which is cool but I’ve never had sushi that bad before. Vons is better. I hope this place ups their game or they’re gonna go out of
Business. Service was great tho wonderful employees.

From Hongo and previous name until after moving to the new location with the centers remodeling, to multiple iterations of management, the restaurant has been ok. Except for the strange period of pastel colored nori for sushi, that is. Overall, the sashimi has been good over the years. Kinda miss the teppan. The servers and chefs remain great, kinda miss how they used to greet loudly and say goodbye.

Went in, looks like they remodeled, a lot brighter than before. The special rolls and lunch bento were super tasty! takoyaki was disappointing, I expected more garnish like bonito flakes or mayo. The solo waiter took their time getting to our table, more time before taking our order… I think we spent an extra hour here just waiting! But the food was worth it in the end

Food/Taste/Flavor : 4/5 Rice was a bit hard and smushed; didn’t have the texture of sushi rice. Relied heavily on their sauces for flavor. They cut back on the more expensive ingredients in the rolls. The tempura was soggy in the roll. Good wasabi not grainy. Presentation was great and beautifully rolled! It is more americanized so the sauces are pretty heavy – a bit too sweet. Definitely hits the spot though and fulfills your sushi craving in SLO.

Ambience : 3/5 – sticky tables and old-looking chairs. Dark with christmas lights. Not a uniform theme to the interior. Definitely more americanized. There is faint music playing in the background. Loud enough to hear but not loud enough to enjoy.

Service : 3/5 – They prioritized an elderly couple who must’ve been regulars. They actually got their food very quickly. We came at 6:15pm and thought it wouldn’t be too packed. They did have alot of to-go order. No one came by to tell us our order was still coming. So when it got close to 7:00pm, we were debating whether to leave. We waited for 40 minutes for just two rolls.

Value for Price : 5/5 We ordered from the 50% off yellow menu. And they didn’t tax and tip on the original price at the end of it. Overall, their rolls were strongly flavored but it truly satisfied my sushi cravings – just don’t expect the topnotch Japanese restaurant qualities in major cities.

Stopped by on road trip . Nice happy hr menu. Very basic no flavor sushi. Friendly staff doing a whole lot of nothing. Like leaving my water cup empty.

Service and quality of food has gone down hill. Its nice they have a cheaper menu, but the quality just isn’t there. They forgot to put some of the ingredients in my roll.

Sometimes you want high end sushi, but sometimes you want affordable, dank Japanese food. This is where Sushiya comes in.

+ Great prices that gets you a butt load of food without breaking the bank.
+ They have a solid 50% off Specialty Rolls menu if your total is over $15. Lot’s of rolls to choose from, great variety, interesting/fun names, and great combinations.
+ Super Dragon Rolls was exactly what I wanted. Large pieces, generous toppings, super really filling. Great for sharing!
+ The Lunch Specials are a great deal with lots of food. This is good to order when you’re hungry and want a variety. I don’t recommend the beef teriyaki or the sesame chicken because both were dry, albeit the generous amount of sauce.
+ Tempura here is SO GOOD. Not soggy, great crisp, and large pieces.
+ CHRIRASHI BOWL! For about $22, this is SO WORTH IT. It’s not mind blowing, melt in your mouth sushi but it was fresh, generous, and great variety of fish. The sushi rice was perfect.
+ Dim and dingy interior that feels like a cave
+ Spacious dining area with plenty of seating. We didn’t have any problem getting a table
+ Friendly, fast service that was always attentive without hovering
+ Convenient location for running errands in the neighborhood
+ Easy parking in a large shopping plaza.
