Le Merveilleux by Frédéric Vaucamps is a must-have dessert made by our establishment. Its secret? An inimitable meringue that makes this cake so light and airy.

My wife and I just happened upon this little piece of heaven today. The smell inside was absolutely intoxicating, and the food was even better. We had a brioche-chocolat and a pain-au-chocolat. Both were served warm and soft. The best pastries we found in Lucerne!

Accidentally walked past this bakery, completely hooked by the smell of freshly baked bread.

Tried a warm croissant and a soft bun straight from the oven with hot americano — such a lovely way to start the morning.

One of the best confectionery spot in Lucerne and Switzerland. The cakes are incredibly delicious, especially the caramel and white chocolate flavors.
Be sure to try the signature small cakes; they’re made right in front of you behind the glass. You can taste the high-quality ingredients, like butter and eggs.

The place inside is almost always full, but for take away everything goes quickly.

A very charming pastry shop with fresh, high-quality treats. The chocolate bun I had was so fresh it was still hot—almost too warm to hold! I also tried the “Incroyable” meringue, and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had—crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of flavor. It’s self-service, which keeps things quick and easy, and the prices are very reasonable. I’m definitely coming back next time I’m in the area!

Freshly baked Merveilleux variety with coffee. Two minutes proximity from our hotel made us visit this amazing place all three days.

Nice place to stop for a small afternoon bite and a coffee. Sweet and savory snacks in the small pace off of Hirschenplatz. Not too many seats inside, but quite a few outside in nice weather. Decent coffee, good pastries.

The schoggibrötlis here deserve 10 stars — without a doubt the best dessert you can find in Luzern.
Since discovering this bakery a couple of months ago, I’ve become a loyal customer, visiting on average once a week. The service is usually great, the staff friendly, and the warm chocolate buns an absolute delight.

Unfortunately, today’s experience was quite disappointing service-wise. We were a group of five, served by a lady with glasses and a French accent, and ordered some chocolate buns to take away. She initially placed them all in one large paper bag, which wasn’t ideal since we wanted to enjoy them while sitting by the river. When we asked for at least two extra small paper bags, she handed them over rather reluctantly.

A moment later, as I picked up some napkins, she gave me a judgmental look and said, “You already have the bags,” in an unfriendly tone. I was honestly quite taken aback, I wouldn’t expect a renowned bakery in the heart of Altstadt to be stingy about offering a complementary napkin for a product you buy. And besides, since when does a paper bag serve the same purpose as a napkin? As someone who adores these chocolate buns, I can confirm that 90% of the time, they leave a bit of chocolate on your hands and face so a napkin is a necessity, not a whim.

I fully support sustainability efforts, but I doubt that was the motivation behind her attitude. It’s a pity, because I’ve always recommended Aux Merveilleux de Fred to friends and visitors, and the other staff members have consistently been polite and welcoming.
Today’s interaction, however, left a bit of a sour taste, which is a shame given how sweet their pastries are.

The owners are so kind and hospitable. The brioche is sublime. Sitting inside or on the cobblestones with a delicious coffee is a highlight in Lucerne.
