Pho Real – Charlotte: Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine in the Heart of …
Reviews
I’m new in the area and Charlotte surrounding area. Came from the West Coast of USA, and decided to check out a pho spot. Googled a spot and picked this to by first Viet spot in Charlotte NC.
Inside atmosphere was nice. First thing I said “it looks Americanized”. Those knows know what I meant. Took a bit to be seated, but it was fine and we wasn’t in a rush anyways. Booth freshly cleaned, and seated. We wasn’t waiting for physical Menu, but noticed they have QAR code. QAR was hard to load up due to my phone service was at 1 bar in Charlotte. First world problems right?! Anyways my and my girl menus finally loaded up. We looked through it and it all looked delicious, and plus we wasn’t waiting starving.
I base Viet pho spot off of certain core criteria. Their spring rolls, Cafe sua da, and their Pho broth.
Young man was great and helpful as a waiter.
My girl is picky so I let order first. She ordered the Shrimp n Pork spring rolls, and pho special. I’m a foodigger so I order their wings, their Cafe Sau Da, and their Bun Reiu.
Spring rolls came out, and it look normal. With chopped Iceberg lettuce thrown in with half shrimps and slice of pork. With sour peanut sauce (I know every region and family have their own version of sauces) which threw me off a bit. Not saying it’s bad, but wasn’t used to it. Ate it up though.
I’ve been spoiled in motherland Vietnam and West coast Santa Anna (Spring Rolls should be with full head of lettuce, pickled carrots, and dycon, and comes with both shrimps and juicy pork’s as a minimum.)
Her pho looked normally good and delicious and hearty.
I got the fried wings. On the small side I’m used to, but it’s not the size, it’s the flavor and texture that counts in this case. Wings were good, and it came with tangy hot style dipping sauce. I’m used to the thick n sweet nuk mum sauce with this. Different change, but good.
Sau Da came. Watered down and not that sweet… I’m used to other Viet spot bringing the drip drip coffee on the table to show us it’s legit Viet style coffee, and a glass of Condensed milk with ice. Once done we pour it over the ice and stir. With the bitter and sweet tongue flavor punch you get. But in this case I got it watered down.
Bun Reiu I can’t complain as it was good. Only thing is I didn’t get the other sides erbs, and especially the shrimp paste. Each family have different recipes that fits them.
Food was priced right for the city. Overall food was 3.5-4 ♂️
Young man service was 4.
1. Please have hard paper menus for people whom don’t have data or service, or a cell phone.
2. We didn’t get any napkins or utensil after we asked once we got our Pho. So we was eating our appetizer with our fingers and no napkins.
3. Serve your coffee with drip drip in front of them.
