I told my children when they were little that if they learned a foreign language I would send them to visit a country where that tounge was spoken when they reached high school age. Three of my six children learned French and they all chose Paris for their reward destination.
I visited Cafe Rolle with one of two sons who have visited France on more than one occasion. They all grew up exposed to French cuisine at home and fell in love with the country and it’s food once they visited there. When I discovered Cafe Rolle I couldn’t wait for my next trip to Sacramento to check it out. I was not disappointed.
Located in a small strip center in a mostly residential area, Cafe Rolle is an incredible find. I ate at a different restaurant on the other side of the street the week before and noticed this place. It was closed then, but being a lover of French food I vowed to come back. This is so close to eating at a cafe or bistro in France the difference isn’t worth mentioning.
The delicious bread is half baked locally and finished at the restaurant as needed. The menu is both casual and at the same time, elegant. Almost everything is house-made, from the salad dressing to the pate. I had the Foie Gras Monsieur Sandwich and it was FANTASTIC! All of the dishes that my table ordered were spot-on perfect.
Our waiter, a tall guy with a deep booming baritone voice, was very good. While I was chatting with him the owner (and chef) joined in and we talked for several minutes. What a great, friendly, and colorful guy! I have a new best friend. I told him that I come to Sacramento weekly for cancer treatments and he said, “Great! You can come back often”. I love that guy!

Went there for lunch with my brother since he knows the owner and what can I say french food. I had the prawn sandwich which was perfect . Prawns were cooked right and break was slightly warm and crunchy. The waiter ( wish I got his name) was excellent and very professional. We did get the lunch special which include a drink and dessert ( we picked of course an orangina and creme brulee) . Will definitely come back!

Rustic vibe and relatively small, place seems busy all the time. Has a bit of a weird layout with the bathrooms and menu isn’t the most diverse. But the food is fantastic and service while a little scattered is very friendly and prompt. I had one of the best sandwiches ever. This is now one of my favorite lunch spots. Regret not stopping in sooner even though I live nearby.

Cafe Rolle is one of my favorite places. I absolutely love this place. The chef and most of the staff are French, which of course makes this place even better. I have had almost all the sandwiches on the menu. All their sandwiches are served on their deliciously homemade crusty french baguettes. The foie gras sandwich is my favorite. I love how the fatty oils of the liver soak into the bread. Yum! The hot salmon sandwiches (both the Stacey’s favorite and regular hot salmon sandwich) and the lamb are a very close second. Every time I come here I always want to order two sandwiches just for myself. Oh and if you are still hungry their chocolate mousse is also delicious. It has such a wonderful decadently rich chocolate flavor. Seriously I love this place.

The dining area is very small and can get quite noisy. The food is delicious, though. I personally prefer lunch over dinner, simply because the sandwiches are fabulous and I like a sandwich for lunch more than for dinner. The bread is out of this world!! Hot and crunchy outside, soft inside, and combined with the melted gruyere cheese and protein of your choice it’s heaven! My better half loves the ham best, I love the shrimp.

Finally went to this place and I loved it. I had the salmon and brie sandwich and oh man it was good. Freshest Salmon i’ve ever had. having lived in France for a year back in 2005/2006, I have always missed french food. I love how the owner/chef sings to himself as he works. Good wine selection too.

The salmon sandwiches are to die for. The flavor combinations are perfect. The bread was bakery fresh, soft with a flakey crust. The server’s were on top of everything, pleasant & professional. We were visiting from out of town & I could tell there were local, loyal customers there. It was a very pleasant clientele. I’ll definitely be back when visiting Sac.

My boyfriend introduced me to this place and ever since it has been one of our favorite places to eat! The food is fantastic and the creme brulee is to die for! The waiters are always very nice and the chef is very passionate about his food and his customers satisfaction. The prices are a little high but fair compared to the quality you get. If you have not tried this place yet put it on your list, because cafe rolle is a must go!
