It took over 40 minutes to arrive. We were not given bread or anything to tide us over and we hadn’t ordered any because we were told it cost extra. It was so loud in the restaurant that neither of us could hear each other so we gave up trying to talk.
By the time the food arrived, we were starving. We both took our first bite and looked at each other. It was awful. The flavor, the texture. We couldn’t eat it.
When the waitress came over, we apologized and said we didn’t want to be difficult, but neither of us liked it. We mentioned it had also taken 40 min to arrive. She commented that they are busy and said she’d get the manager. It seemed to take him quite a while to come to us. While we waited, we debated what to do. I needed to eat something now, so even though we discussed going to our room and door dashing, I thought maybe we could salvage our time here and at least order some appetizers faster.
The manager finally arrived and we told him how long it had taken and how bad it tasted. He asked if we wanted anything else and we said maybe some appetizers. He returned with some menus and told us he had “comped” the meal, which I thought was a weird way of saying you couldn’t eat it so we took it away and took it off your bill (more on that later).
We ordered two appetizers. Mozzarella al forno and crostini fichi. Basically warmed mozzarella balls with prosciutto wrapped around them and bread with fig, cheese and walnuts.
It took 30 more minutes to get that. (See photos.) Two small mozzarella balls and two half pieces of bread (not even toasted) with fig. They were ok, but not great. The best part was literally the tomato slice under the mozzarella balls.
Then came the bill!
This restaurant puts a mandatory 20% tip on there (no matter how the service or experience is) AND a 5% health benefit surcharge.
And get this! The “comped” pasta dish we didn’t eat? Because it was “comped” and not removed, we were charged the tip and health benefit percentage on that, too!
Sum it up? We paid $96 for two beers, two mozzarella balls, 2 half pieces of bread and 2 hours of our life.
Our subtotal was $64, but then we had to pay $25 on top of that for the mandatory tip and health benefit fee.
I feel much more poor and extremely hungry.
Welcome to California.
The staff were kind and attentive.. you get a 10% discount if you are attending a play which was an added unexpected bonus!
I gnawed on the lamb chops at 2am that night, even cold it still hit a flavor profile Guy Fieri would be proud of!
Hoping next time we can get into the jazz room!
The team at Zingari deserves special recognition. From the moment you walk in, the staff creates a welcoming atmosphere with their professionalism and genuine enthusiasm for the food they’re serving. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to make recommendations enhances the overall dining experience significantly.
While the restaurant’s name suggests equal emphasis on both steak and pasta, the steak falls into “solid but unremarkable” territory. It’s certainly not bad – but it doesn’t quite reach the exceptional heights of their pasta offerings. For a steakhouse, this feels like a missed opportunity to truly excel in both specialties.
Food was very away from Italian !
Space was bad mantened, dirty windows. My hands got stick to the table .
Steak ( fillet mignon ) was dry, wrong ticknes and cooked like was in Mexico .
Salmon ( was removed from the bill) was firm and without any taste .
Lack of balances in the plates .
Truffles French fries was without truffles
The four-dish Christmas set was exquisite, with each dish a beautiful blend of flavors. What made the experience even more special was the opportunity to connect with another solo diner, sharing delightful conversations in such a cozy ambiance. To top it off, Mr. Miglani, the Managing Director of Zingari, graciously shared a selection of his special wines with us and the fascinating stories behind the vineyards.
This was my first visit to Zingari, and it certainly won’t be my last. I want to thank the team for creating such a memorable and heartwarming evening. Highly recommended!
