I love BBQ, and this is some really good, local cuisine! We got the pork and brisket and both were delicious even by themselves. The sauces–vinegar, spicy, sweet, and mustard–are fantastic as well and complemented the meat wonderfully. The Mac & Cheese was exceptional with some unique flair and quality ingredients.

Picked this place off the net due to all 5 star reviews: the reviews are right.
Easy access on and off the interstate; the place is clean, bright and welcoming. The owners are super personable and friendly… and the brisket sandwiches were DELICIOUS. I used the sweet BBQ sauce, my wife mixed it with the spicy. Both ways are great. (Don’t drown the brisket in sauce or you’ll miss the great taste of the meat itself!)
We stopped on our way from Vermont to NC, and we’re going to remember this place for the return trip AND for the next time we’re driving down I-81 in these parts.

Fantastic brisket! I tried the pulled pork, chicken, and beef brisket, and they were all winners. As I was leaving with my takeout order and toddler in my arms, the guy running the place came from behind the counter to get the door for me. He is a class act.

Delicious Brisket! We got a pound of brisket and two sides to go. The brisket was tender and flavorful. I recommend slicing every bite to include some of the wonderfully salty rub. The Macaroni & Cheese had at least two white cheeses (I’m guessing white cheddar and parmesan) for an interesting and unique twist on this classic comfort food. The baked beans were also different in a great way – some spicy heat (guessing black and cayenne pepper) with vinegar and sweet tones underneath… not too hot and a welcome variation from uber-sugary canned options. This was our only visit so far and we’ll be back for pulled pork. My crystal ball shows big spreads from New River BBQ delighting hungry football fans at tailgates and house parties as well. Close to I81 too – an excellent choice for travelers who are tired of the chain places. Supporting local restaurants is a great way to bring variety to your taste buds and the gastronomical world in general. New River BBQ is a home run for sure.

Great local place for quality BBQ. Brooks the owner is really on his game with how juicy the brisket and chicken were. Loved the spicy beans too. Mac n cheese was a very classic home made style.

I was passing through and wanted a good barbecue place. The reviews said the food was good but I could not eat the beans they were terrible. Chicken was OK. Had a lot of fat on it and the coleslaw had a strange taste. The people were really nice and the place was clean though it is definitely not the barbecue that I’m used to.

We stopped for lunch at New River Barbecue during their first week of operation. Their lunch special (pulled pork sandwich, chips and drink) was a good deal. There was a generous helping of meat on the sandwich, and the meat was clean, moist and had nice flavor. Four sauces were available (sweet, vinegar-based, mustard-based, and spicy). The dining area was small but clean, and there was a small outdoor eating area. The menu has limited options but I look forward to trying their beef brisket and chicken!

Meeting spot to catch up with old friends and fill our bellies. We each ordered the 2 meat special with Mac and cheese. The different barbeque sauces were a fun addition to our smoky selections. The guys running the place were quick to serve and friendly. Nice and clean to boot!
