The concept is casual, but there is a clear attention to detail behind everything—from the carefully selected ingredients to the calm, minimal interior. The menu focuses on straightforward dishes like nigiri, temaki, and sushi bowls, letting the freshness of the fish really shine.
What I appreciate most is the balance. It’s relaxed and approachable, yet there’s a genuine respect for Japanese craft. In a city like Miami, where restaurants can sometimes feel overly flashy, Midorie offers something refreshing: clean flavors, thoughtful preparation, and a space where the food remains the center of the experience.
A wonderful spot for excellent sushi without the formality of a traditional omakase restaurant.
We started with the Rhihaku “Wandering Poet” Junmai Ginjo sake, and the attention to detail here was impeccable. They let us choose our own sake cups from a charming selection, and the way the bottle was presented and poured into the vessel added such a thoughtful, ceremonial flair – it elevated the entire experience right from the start.
The food was nothing short of phenomenal, with everything tasting incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. We shared two bowls of miso soup that were rich and comforting since it was a chilly Miami day. The two spicy tuna rolls had a nice kick without overpowering the freshness. The negitoro roll was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, showcasing the quality of the fatty tuna. For nigiri, we went with two hamachi pieces that were silky and vibrant, a kanpachi nigiri that was crisp and clean, and the wagyu nigiri – WOW, that buttery tenderness was unreal! We rounded it out with a hamachi bowl, which was generously portioned with fresh yellowtail over rice, seasoned to perfection.
What truly made the meal unforgettable was the amazing service from our server, Yuri. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm – anticipating our needs without being intrusive, and her recommendations were spot on. It’s rare to find service this polished in such a cozy setting.
If you’re in Miami and looking for authentic Japanese cuisine with a touch of luxury, Midorie 79 is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back. I plan to try their second location in the grove next!
I ordered the Midorie bowl with salmon, tuna, blue crab, tobiko, and shiitake mushroom. On paper, that’s a disciplined lineup. No gimmicks. No spicy mayo drowning everything in sight.
The salmon was fresh and buttery. The tuna was clean, properly cut, not that sad gray tone you see when a place is cutting corners. The blue crab added a subtle sweetness that didn’t fight the fish. Tobiko brought that crisp, briny pop that makes each bite feel layered instead of flat. The shiitake mushroom grounded the bowl with an earthy depth that actually made it feel intentional, not random.
Most places mess up balance. Too much rice. Too much sauce. Too much ego. This bowl stayed composed. The fish was the star. The flavors were clean. Nothing felt heavy or overworked.
Is it Tokyo-level omakase? Let’s stay realistic. But for Miami, especially in this area, Midorie 79th delivers a bowl that respects the ingredients and doesn’t insult the word “Japanese.”
Fresh. Balanced. No chaos in a bowl. That’s a win.
One of the small but thoughtful details I loved was the soy sauce presentation—it comes with a little paintbrush so you can apply just the right amount without overpowering the fish. It’s those kinds of touches that make Wabi Sabi special. Dessert was just as impressive: a seasonal Japanese strawberry that was perfectly sweet and an unforgettable ube mochi that was unlike any I’ve tried before.
The decor is simple, with a refined Japanadi aesthetic that keeps the focus on the food. Service was also 10/10. Amazing all around—I’ll definitely be back
