Aug ’25: Had this place on my to-go list for a while and was finally able to visit it at closing time on a Wednesday around 2pm, right as they were about to pack up. The timings of HapaPino are 10am-2pm, hence scheduling was the biggest reason why i couldn’t visit earlier. With their dishes being specifically Filipino breakfast/brunch items the timings are completely understandable. Although, after having tried them, i wish i could chomp on their delicious grub during dinner times as well.
On this hot Wednesday afternoon, while i waited in the shaded seating area, for my order of tapsilog with longanisa on the side, i received a request from a dear little gremlin to grab something for her as well. As the timing of this aforementioned request coincided with the gentleman serving me my previously ordered food, i hesitantly passed on the request since this was well past their closing time. But the folks here, fired up the grill again at my behest and were happy to oblige. I sincerely appreciate them doing this for me, despite not knowing that i had wanted to visit them for a long time, and had pulled an all nighter to make this visit happen. Full marks for service.
I didn’t grab utensils so that i could keep myself from eating it before reaching home, but as i was waiting for my late order of breakfast sliders with spam and longanisa to show up, the tapsilog beckoned me like the rings in LOTR. As magical corruption ran through my veins and a voice repetitively urged me to open the box and take a peek, i gave in to its power and took a peek quickly followed by a couple of chomps of the tapa, after checking that no one was noticing my transgressions. The gremlin must not get to know.
Luckily, before i could completely surrender to this corruption wrought upon me by this tapa, with my grubby little hands, the order of sliders magically appeared with its bearer in tow. I quickly came back down to earth and managed a full-hearted compliment for the tapa, before scurrying away towards my motored chariot.
To make a long story even longer, the tapsilog was absolutely amazing. So was the longanisa. The rice, the creamy fried egg with its soft centered runny yolk, the crunchy garlic, all complimented the meats very gracefully. The tapa was cut in small pieces, reminiscent of burnt ends and had a nice sweet char on it. The longanisa were cute looking sausage pieces that were sweet and savory and absolutely delectable. The experience left me wondering why it took so long for me to try it out. While i can’t rate it for its authenticity, i can rate it for its taste as a first time enjoyer, since i fell head over heels for silog bowls. The combination of items and the taste was undeniably incredible.
The breakfast sliders containing spam and longanisa were also really cheesy, gooey and creamy, reminiscent of the savoriness of a brunch but immaculately packed between two slices of slider buns. My personal preference would be to have it with more of their sauce on it next time, or adding some sort of acidity to cut through the richness of the bite, and maybe even add a little bit of greens for color, nutrition and rounding out the dish. But enjoyed the sliders as well, they were very filling, delicious and appropos for the breakfast/brunch theme.
Another great thing about the dishes were that they traveled incredibly well on my ride back home. The sliders did not fall apart and the silog bowl was also virtually undeterred.
Not only will i be coming back for more, but I am also interested in trying the tocilog and the Portuguese linguica sausage next. Folks who are on the fence, should come out and try it too. You wont be disappointed.
Warning: Stay away from the tapa please, it will beckon you in your dreams!
