This trip to Oahu was my chance to tackle the food courts at AMC as it was an extended, non-vacay stay.

ATMOSPHERE:
Located inside the bustling Makai Market food court, they share indoor communal seating with close to 30 other eateries.

MENU:
Hawaiian and local Hawaii fare served on a hot foods line.

FOOD:
3 Choice Combo
I chose chicken adobo, chicken long rice, BBQ chicken, and mac salad. Both chicken dishes were made with four bone-in thighs, with the adobo version being my favorite. The BBQ one tasted more like shoyu chicken and was pretty dry. The chicken long rice was okay as it wasn’t very gingery nor loaded with chicken. The mac salad was good. Huge portions!

SERVICE:
Counter service was friendly and quick.

OVERALL:
Not bad. I may try the Hawaiian dishes another time.

My son and I both really enjoyed the food. I love poke as does my son and we both noted how fresh the food was. We are both pretty frugal and didn’t want to pay 17.50 for one mid-sized poke bowl…. but, we’re on vacation so we splurged… and even though we paid more than we wanted, we both agreed that it was actually worth it. The guy who served us wasn’t super friendly but not mean either. Over all, a decent experience.

Pork Lau Lau 3 the leaf on the outside is edible, soft, not stringy; pork chunks wrapped inside, medium juicy, medium flavorful

Poi Bowl has been at Ala Moana a really long time. I remember because I worked at Ala Moana for a good number of years and it was always there. It’s good to know some businesses are still around but in order to stay that way you gotta have good reasons for people to keep coming back. Unfortunately offering another scoop of rice when the mac salad ran out isn’t going to cut it. Especially when paying $18 for a plate with a piece of dried hamburger. The curry with it was decent, the potatoes were cooked good and the plate had a decent amount meat but considering the price, it’s not enough to bring me back I’m sorry to say. Just my honest opinion.

Quite a selection of Hawaiian dishes here. A nice place to have some authentic Hawaiian food while in a huge mall with a mind numbing number of stores.

In depth review:

Poi Bowl in Ala Moana offers a fresh take on classic Hawaiian comfort food. Their Loco Moco features a base of rice and smooth, earthy poi that complements the savory elements of the dish.

The hamburger patty is juicy and well-seasoned, with a tender, not overly thick texture. The fried egg is perfectly cooked, with a runny yolk that blends into the gravy. The gravy itself is lighter, letting the other ingredients shine without overwhelming the dish.

The portion size is generous but not over the top, and it’s reasonably priced for the quality. The dish is balanced, flavorful, and comforting.

Generous portions of food, could probably fill two people. Maybe the food is an acquired taste but it wasn’t our favourite. We got the Orchid Special. Would be interested to try other dishes!

Absolutely superb. And you get a LOT of food for a VERY reasonable price. 20-something dollars fed my partner and me for three full days. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly, communicative/descriptive (I am a blind patron). Poi Bowl? Perfection on a plate.

I stopped by the Poi Bowl at Ala Moana Mall and ordered the Trip Stew, which turned out to be great. It tasted exactly how my mom used to make it for me.
