We ordered sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken. Our order was ready in the expected time frame and the service was great. The food was not.
I’ve been to Asian restaurants across the country and this is the first one I’ve ever been to that served long grain rice instead of jasmine. The sweet and sour sauce was pretty thin and very mild as a result. The orange chicken sauce base was mostly ketchup, which we could smell immediately when we opened the container. It was really disappointing food especially for the cost at $12.99/entree.

I’ve been curious about trying this place again since the new owners took over. I decided to order in tonight and I was SUPER excited to see that they have *proper* Almond Boneless Chicken on the menu (the crispy breaded chicken cutlet on a bed of shredded lettuce with the brown gravy sauce on the side)! My coworker and I were just lamenting a few days ago about how we couldn’t find it around here. It was soooo delicious and high quality! It was my go-to order as a child, and it was such a comfort and delight to experience it again. I will definitely be ordering from here again and recommending it to my coworker!

NEW OWNERSHIP at New China Flavor on Michigan Avenue on Lansing’s Eastside!
When I saw a new dim sum menu up on the window, I was so excited I went in and talked to Annie and soon learned that the owners used to run Golden Wok in East Lansing, the one restaurant I’ve really missed since I returned to the area three years ago.
Annie is so welcoming, and the food is EVERYTHING I’d hoped it would be. Eating here felt like returning to a place I used to love.
Great place to eat on Lansing’s Eastside!

UPDATE: My family has now eaten there a few times and I still hold the same opinion as that first night. What’s more, if you want something made just a little differently than on the menu, they will accommodate!

I’ve only had food after I’ve been drinking next door at The Avenue, food has been really good after a night of drinking I can’t give a review on a normal day when my judgment hasn’t been cloudy but right now it smacks :), but I’m here again, first time I order in person, I’ve only ordered online and then picked up, lady was upset today because we were ordering wrong apparently, the menu doesn’t give indication of how many items are included with order she seemed bothered that we weren’t clear when we didn’t know in the first place(I’ve attached pictures of the menu that I’m talking about) the menu says each next to price so how are we supposed to know that each means 3 items insteadof 1 item. I didn’t like how this lady was talking to us, she could have simply told us the order is 3 items instead of making me feel dumb, she provided a stank face more than anything. In person order wait time was 30 min.

I’ve been coming to China Flavor for the last 9 years. Since the new ownership, everything has only been improved. It’s hard to take over a place that has been on the decline with service and food when the passion is lost, but you can clearly tell that the new owners are genuine and love their craft. My favorite dish is the deep fried spicy chicken house combo (extra spicy) with fried dumplings and a Coke. Anything on the menu is great, so give it a try 🙂

Our new favorite for Asian cuisine for sure!!! We have tried MANY Chinese restaurants in the Lansing area and this one by far tops them all! When you first walk in it may not look like anything special, however we were pleasantly welcomed with a warm smile from a very friendly woman. She carefully explained the combos to us and the different options you could get. They had more options for sides than most similar restaurants AND included a beverage in the very reasonable price. We asked if it was possible to get our food extra spicy and they happily honored our request, and wanted to make sure they got it just right. The food arrived very quickly and everything tasted extremely fresh and had a great flavor. They didn’t skimp on the veggies in mine like some other restaurants do. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything wanted wanted and make sure we were happy with our food. Even the quality of the take out cup surprised me! We will DEFINITELY be returning and ABSOLUTELY recommend everyone try this restaurant!

China Flavor is the perfect place for Great tasting American Chinese food. Nothing fancy or pretentious but once you try it, you’ll come back for more.
Large portions of the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Orange Chicken as well as the Shrimp Egg Foo Young are served here with an abundance of rice. A family of 5 can easily share three entrees and be satisfied at an extremely affordable price.
The inside dining area with booths for 4 guests line the walls while several large round tables can seat up to 6 guests. Due to covid 19 I believe it’s take out only, however you can sit and wait while your order is being prepared.

This restaurant recently underwent a change in management and it has made all the difference. The food is absolutely delicious, the portions are perfect, and the woman who runs it is so nice! New* China Flavor’s excellent food, delightful service, and late night hours make it an instant neighborhood staple!

THERE WAS A PENNY WITH MY SESAME CHICKEN. The rude old owner refused to just give back the cash refund but offered store credit instead, why would I want to eat from this place again. Had to call the cops to get involved and the health department ( please see attached photo and videos).
