I sampled the chili while I was there and it had very good flavor. I tried the regular lemonade and it was good. A bit sweeter than i prepare my lemonade but still good. I got 3 meals and sampled each before refrigeration. The oyster mushroom sandwich was delicious and was my meal for the day. I had plans of eating it as I traveled home. Well the sandwich was so thick that it required 2 hands so I just ate my fries until I got home. I did get one small bite while it was fresh. The jackfruit ribs were good and the bar b que sauce was good as well. The oxtails were different but flavorful. I never ate meat oxtails so I had no reference for comparison.
The location may not be convenient to my home but it was worth the travel time. Overall, I will return as a treat to myself and to not have to cook. That oyster mushroom sandwich is my #1!
They did offer a sign up for their loyalty program, and of course I did. I sampled the ranch and had to purchase another one.
Oh, I was able to score a bag of trap batter. It was also great to meet Tommy, and he definitely had a mushroom plan to make this woman shroom again.
The food is tasty and made with such care. It’s fresh as can be, and you can watch and hear your items being made. And yes, it’s all vegan. So nice to have thoughtful vegan food that stands on its own and has no risk of contamination! One less thing to fret about when going out to eat!
I don’t do faux meat (Ike’s had several options for that), so I got the battered oyster mushrooms, mac & cheese, and peach cobbler as takeout. Those mushrooms were fantastic, with breading that had a slightly salty kick. The portion was definitely more than an entree, too – it could easily be shared with 2-3 people as an appetizer. Since this was a barbecue place, I would love to see a dip for these in the future.
The mac & cheese also was very good. I don’t always enjoy vegan cheese, but it worked here, with wonderful crusty crumbles on top. Suuuuuuper creamy and satisfying.
The peach cobbler was nice and sticky, with plenty of big peach chunks. It was a little too sweet for me, but I passed the bulk of it to a friend, and he loved it. Great way to finish off a meal.
The service was outstanding, with lots of chatter at the counter and friendly guidance through the options for newbies. There’s also a loyalty program.
There may be a little bit of sticker shock for some — vegan ingredients and preparations aren’t cheap or easy. But it’s really not far off the mark of meat barbecue, plus you can taste exactly where your money is going. It’s quality food, not faux-vegan flash.
There’s a big opportunity for good vegan and vegetarian spots to win in Cincy, and Ike’s shows huge upside in the category. It’s tasty vegan soul food with heart, and judging by the steady stream of customers on the day I went (and at 3:45 p.m. on a weekday, no less!), the neighborhood agrees. Looking forward to trying more dishes!
