GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!! 2 weeks ago I had the Ox tails,cabbage and Greens Absolutely Outstanding. Today went in for Beef tips ,sold out;( but had Chicken Curry and cabbage… WOW, WOW, WOW The Best Curry I’ve Ever had… also had the Small Strawberry cake , I should have taken a picture before I ate it… Delicious

My daughter and I stopped by while on a roadtrip and wowee, this was the best food we had all week! We had the oxtail, Mac n cheese, beef patty, and banana pudding. The oxtail portion is large enough for me to have it for two meals. Everything was DELICIOUS and I appreciated that the chef checked in on us. There’s 2 tables inside.

1st time trying the Soul Food Shack, I went went the Ox tails, mac and cheese, & cornbread. Was told the meat falls off the bone. Today it didn’t, it wasn’t tough but wasn’t that tender and tasted sorta sweet, not my cup of tea.

3 of us ate there today for the first time. 2 of us had fried catfish and 1 had the jerk chicken. All of us were thankful we went here. So good all the way around. We will be back for sure.

I ordered all they have on the menu that was available. The pasta was excellent. I added the oxtail and it was delicious. The beef tips and rice was excellent. Catfish was fire. The banana pudding must be excellent as a customer that was in prior to us purchased it all. The sides are exceptional. Home cooked to perfection. Pricing is fair for what you get.

Food was delicious! My fiancé and I tried a little bit of everything. The jerk chicken and oxtail plate was really good and tender . The big back plate was so flavorful. The Mac and cheese and greens are fire . The banana pudding was delicious. I could keep going. Just try it for yourself you won’t be disappointed. We will be back.

Let me say that the unassuming outside does not match the flavors that are awaiting inside! I came across this place by doing a search for lunch, but I wanted something different for lunch. Coming from Florida and now residing in Abilene, I wanted Caribbean. I didn’t think there was a such a place in town, but google proved me wrong. Not only was I wrong, it’s close to my house so I decided to stop in. This is a small store front and very unassuming. I walked in and you can hear the Reggae music coming from the back kitchen! I also got a whiff of something that smelled familiar, being that I grew up in the Caribbean. After a few minutes of chatting with the young lady at the front counter, I realized they had Beef Patties! I didn’t think twice about that. I also ordered the Ox tail special with rice and vegetables. The Patty came out and that was the fastest thing I ate. So flavorful and the outside was so flaky and crusty. So damn good. I then opened the Oxtail container. That allspice smell hit me and I went in. The Oxtails were tender. Oh and that gravy! I asked them at the front for some pepper sauce aka hot sauce. That also was delightful. I’m glad I came by and checked this place out. I get tired of Burger joints. This might just be my new favorite place in town. This is as close to comfort food for me and I know I will be back. Excellent job to the chef . Everything was delicious.

As a local Abilenian for over 36 years now, this place is the definition of soul. From the moment I walked in the environment was great while the staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered the jerk chicken which was so tender it just melted off the bone. Served with great rice, flavorful cabbage and a side of tangy sauce. The chicken is done so well that the sauce is absolutely unnecessary if your like me and prefer just the smoky, seasoned flavors. I’ll leave you with this, it was so good I had to order another breast just to try one more and I was happy to do so. Pricing is fine and above all else, in this time and era I feel we all can agree, supporting a local family owned business just feels good. These guys deserve it and much more. I hope their success continues to grow. CHECK IT OUT !!!

The place is awesome. The food is good with great customers service! My favorite is the Red Beans and Rice or the Lemon Pepper. I have been to the business and to the food truck locations and had good experiences at both. Love the family owed business and always look forward to my next visit!!
