Would give Maria 10 stars if I could!! From the atmosphere to the food to the truly welcoming heart that Maria has, this was such a great experience. I wish I took photos of our food before we dug in. We tried a few different tamales, the pork tacos, rice & beans and the chicken mole. Holy cow. It was all so flavorful and prepared with care. Before we left we purchased some pozole to take home…it was delicious. It came with a large container of pozole and broth as well as a fresh pack of tostadas, lime and avocado. Couldn’t have had a better experience! We will absolutely be back!

If you’re craving the best tamales around, look no further! The tamales are packed with flavor and clearly made with love. The guacamole? Fresh and perfectly seasoned—it’s a must-order!
The ambiance is just as memorable as the food—laid-back and cozy, surrounded by vibrant, colorful art and beautifully handmade furniture. Every detail feels thoughtful and welcoming.
To top it all off, Maria, the owner, is the sweetest person you’ll ever meet. You can truly feel the heart and soul that goes into this place. Highly recommend for anyone who loves authentic food, great service, and warm artistic vibes!

Maria’s Mexican Cuisine is a must-visit in Lexington, KY. The owner, Maria, is extremely kind and attentive to the needs of anyone who may find themselves dining in her restaurant.
The ambiance in Maria’s Mexican Cuisine is nothing short of home. I chose to dine-in for my visit and would recommend others to do so as well, even though she does offer carryout and pick up orders. The experience of dining in Maria’s is homey and warm, owned by a woman who makes enjoying her food more than a way to fill your stomach.
Alongside excellent tamales, tacos, and ceviche, Maria also sells a variety of goods – most of which made in Mexico or Guatemala and of excellent quality.
I would recommend Maria’s to any passerby or any Lexington local who has not yet been lucky enough to try her food and experience.

I’m not one to write reviews, but this place is worth it. Been going to Maria’s for ten years now, and have never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is fun and unique, the service is friendly, and Maria herself is a delight to talk to. The food is always delicious and clearly made with love, so much so that my spouse and I actually served it at our wedding! Truly the best secret gem of Lexington, cannot recommend it highly enough.

Omg. This place is quite the gem. Its a small restaurant in Lexington but the Beef tacos and tamales were the best I have ever had. Homemade tortillas. The seasoning for the beef was amazing and I’m sad I only got one taco. Tamales we got were beef. Pork and chicken with cheese on top. Delicious….I will be going back again

Interesting place hole in the wall kind of store. Not many options for eating. Tamales and tacos. The senora was very nice but explained she didn’t have enough tortillas for 2 orders of tacos. So I got 2 tamales. Good flavor but the second one, when I opened it was burnt.

Totally full after 2 delicious tamales. Great amount of filling (we tried pork, bean, and chicken x 2 ) with a hefty serving of cheese on top. The masa dough was textured and subtly sweet. Highly recommend!

The restaurant owner is very kind and friendly and the food was delicious, authentic but the presentation was not good and way overpriced. I ordered 2 tamales, a side of beans and rice and a bottle of Mexican soda, came out to $20. I could hear the microwave beeping from the dining area and thought to myself, is that my food? I seated myself, grabbed my own disposable utensils and napkins, no service, literally. The food was brought out and slightly microwave burned. Look, I was hungry… I ate it, it’s authentic and delicious but the presentation was “no bueno”. My beans and rice were still in the plastic container they were zapped in and served in disposable plates and bowls. The salsa was good…would I come back, probably not. It’s way overpriced and not for microwaved food.

This is the most authentic and best Mexican food in Lexington Ky in my opinion. The owner is wonderful and makes everyone feel very welcome. The tamales are delicious! The beans and guacamole were fantastic!
