It was my husband and I first time here yesterday 2/8/2026. The food was amazing and Ms. Evelyn was such a sweet lady. She sat and talked to us a while and shared a little about her up bringing learning how to cook from her grandmother and mother. I love this place because it’s so family friendly and very welcoming AND to have a great tasteful family meal. We will definitely be going back.

Love this place and the staff. Friendly and felt like family at Sunday dinner. Greeted with smiles upon entering. I like that they cook ya food upon request as it’s not sitting under heat lamp. Had the oxtail and fried chicken. With Mac n cheese, yams, and mash potatoes. This was two different plates btw. Yea I seen the ad billboard then a coworker told me about this place so I checked it out as I was traveling through to Houston and it’s a staple that I hope is around for a long time. The peach cobbler was also good. I’m use to mikki but I can get a great meal without the extra miles on my route as we usually stop in buccees. Lol

2/6/2025, We both ordered the fried pork chops (made to order), mac n cheese, and green beans. The meal came with corn bread and a drink. The food did not lack seasoning. The chops were juicy and tender, the beating had just the right amount of crispness. What made this for me was the cherry kool-aid! The ladies at the counter were very friendly. Will definitely be back. Thank you.

Eva and I on our annual bbq road trip in Texas. Traveling to Corpus Christi today found this family owned down home, soul food spot. We were greeted and served today by Ms.Everlyn and her granddaughter. The food was outstanding. The service was 5 stars . Any fried foods are prepared to order, so you get it fresh and hot. I’m so glad Eva picked this spot for lunch. We will be back from Florida to eat again.

I was working in the area and came across this place on Google. I am so happy I did too! The staff and others inside were super welcoming. The fact that it is small and they’re so friendly makes the atmosphere inviting and family oriented. The food was already made up and you’re able to see what it looks like before making your choice which was really cool. They have plenty of options to choose from! I picked smothered porkchops over rice and was so indecisive to pick the two more sides as everything looked so good so I let the lady pick it for me. She picked the greens and mac n cheese and yall!! It was amazing!! All of it! Best ever! I even got a peach cobbler and it was amazing too! The portion was so huge that I literally have lunch and dinner!! Great quality and huge portion for your money!! I definitely will be coming back and it recommend this place to anyone!! Y’all this place was off the chain. I stopped on my way home from a work trip. The ladies behind the counter were so kind and happy to show me all the options they had. Everything looks so good, I had them make me a plate of their favorites. Smothered pork chops with yams and green beans. Even tossed a chicken leg and oxtail on top for me to try. I physically couldn’t eat anymore and had enough for a whole other meal. Whenever I’m traveling on 59, I know I’ll be stopping at Evelyn’s.

Hubby and I found this gem passing through on the way home to Arkansas. LOVED IT!!! The oxtail was so tender, gravy was perfect, rice was perfect. Cheesy mac… delicious. Collard greens were perfectly seasoned, didn’t even need pepper sauce. Friendly people, great service. Transported me back to Grandma’s table 50 years ago! Highly recommend!

Yall. If I had to choose my last meal on this earth, it would be from Mrs. Evelyn’s. Just stopped in after finding her place on Google. I wanted something home-cooked while passing through Wharton on a long road trip. I ordered the smothered pork chops with Black Eyed Peas and Cabbage for my sides. I also ordered a mac and cheese for my daughter. Everything is phenomenal. Meat falls off the bone with no need for a knife. Flavor is incredible, with a deliciously salty and very slight spice to the gravy, the perfect buttery richness to the black eyed peas, and cabbage that melts in your mouth. The macaroni and cheese was also delicious. You will not need salt and pepper, everything is perfectly seasoned. Not to mention, the place is extremely clean and well taken care of. To top it all off, all are welcomed with a warm greeting and Mrs. Evelyn makes sure you enjoy your meal first before paying. Please stop in if you want a real treat, you won’t regret it!

My co worker was having dinner here while we were on the phone and he said man you have got to come try the food it’s delicious. So I said okay I’ll give it a try and let me tell you the food was delicious and they did not disappoint I had the smothered steak and turkey necks with black eyed peas and the greens and cornbread Talk about tender and well seasoned.
