I remember fondly my time in Mexico and the morning run down to the neighborhood bakery, with their friendly manner and sense of pride. This, was not that. I suppose I was spoiled, not so much by the pastries, I will admit when in the states my expectations are low, but by the tiny selection.
Sweet Market simply didn’t have the kind of selection I have become used to from the many other Mexican groceries. They certainly didn’t have my standard favorites.
As a side thought, this is the only Mexican bakery I have been in where you are not given a bag to hold your selections. You take them out and carry a tray, which makes me nervous as I am old and a bit unsteady on my feet.
I mean, it is what it is and maybe it fits comfortably into a small neighborhood niche, but this does not do it for me. If the pastries had been extraordinary I might have felt more magic in the tiny place, but it was just standard, kind of dry and uninspired.
And I must say, I didn’t feel particularly welcome. In Mexico I never went into a bakery without being greeted with kindness and pleasure.
I suppose that to some extent how they choose to present themselves is none of my business, it is their space and I am only passing through, but in the panoply of Mexican offerings in this city, there is nothing here to draw me back.

We went in asking for a same day gender reveal cake after having our ultrasound done this morning. We asked for a vanilla cake with white whipped cream frosting, decorative flowers, and blueberries and strawberries. It was dyed beautifully, and tasted AMAZING!! They had it done by this afternoon, and made this experience so so special. We will definitely be ordering through here from now on!!

This was my first time ordering from this location and my mind was blown. They brought my vision into life with this cake I asked for red velvet as a flavor and it was so delicious. It was moist and the cream cheese had a really good taste to it. The price was really good for the size as well. I highly recommend it 10 out of 10.

I practically grew up in LaPaz, and have had an extremely hard time finding authentic, delicious Mexican food. I left here needing to unbuckle my belt. I couldn’t stop eating, everything was so amazing. I had jalapeños and cheese tamales, in addition to the corn, and also the pork tamales. Had authentic al pastor tacos and a carne asada taco. On my way out the door I had to stop and get some of the sweet breads. Wonderful carniceria, and truly the food is the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer. They make everything in house, masa, tortillas, everything. They even sell bulk hominy if you want to make your own masa at home, including the blue hominy.

Update: after having the best cake ever here I decided to go with them for my wedding. It was worth every penny. I will continue to buy cakes here as long as they’re in business. Very friendly workers too.
Best cake ever!! I didn’t really ask any questions just bought a beautiful fruit cake. And to my surprise inside was a chocolate base, flan middle with dulce de leche filling and moist white cake on top. I will be recommending all my friends here! Price was very fair for the quality of the cake.
