Disappointing Takeout
from Huang House.

The chicken and beef were the worst part – cheap cuts with heavy velveting created a disgusting mushy, gelatinous texture. We could barely eat it and threw out most of both dishes, finishing less than a quarter of the Happy Family and Mongolian Beef.

The hot and sour soup was another letdown: bland, flat broth with no bamboo shoots or wood ear mushrooms. It had celery, a mystery protein-like ingredient, and raw mushrooms tossed in last-minute (uncooked and unpleasantly spongy),

Positives were few: shrimp was fresh and flavorful, vegetables were fresh and crisp plentiful.

Sauces were bland, fake crab unnecessary, and tiny bay scallops added nothing.

Overall, wasteful and unsatisfying – won’t return. 1.5/5 stars.

Get some real meat from a local butcher and don’t pre-treat it, just cook it!

The staff were so kind and had plenty of smiles. We placed a catering order in advance and they called to check in an hour beforehand to confirm everything. I was helped out to my car by very friendly staff.

The food was so great! I’m always on the hunt for great Chinese food for the last 15 years since my favorite place closed in Lansing. They have GOVERNOR”S chicken here, not General’s chicken! I haven’t found anyone serving it in 15 years!

We shared the meal with about 12 people and everyone LOVED the food! We had some well-traveled, experienced eaters who said the Lo Mein was the best they’ve had. It was so flavorful and the noodles were large.
The fried rice was tasty and soft. It wasn’t hard at all. There was so much chicken in it, I was surprised at how much they included!
The orange chicken was so flavorful without being overly spicy. It was just right. It had a great crunch to it and it was so delicious.
The beef and broccoli was savory and the broccoli was tender and delicious!
They also included white rice which was unexpected, but it was so tender and fluffy!
The egg rolls were good and had a strong flavor profile. They are small in size, but tasty and they have a great wrapper to them. They have a good crunch to them. I do wish they were bigger and had meat in them, but I did like them nonetheless.
The governor’s chicken was just right, it was so delicious and sweet. YUM!

I was so glad to try their restaurant and I will happily be a lifetime customer, yum yum yum!

We have been on the search for good Chinese food since Kowloon closed in Schererville. I think we have found our new place. We ordered the egg rolls, dumplings, combination fried rice, and orange chicken. The orange chicken is excellent; it’s sweet, spicy, and savory. The combo fried rice and dumplings were good too. The egg rolls are the best I’ve had since Kowloon closed, but they are mini versions of Kowloon’s, wish they were larger. We will be going back.

Honestly always hyped up to try a new restaurant especially Chinese — which we in NWI don’t have enough quality Chinese takeout places.

We ordered 2 smoothies — both said fresh fruit but were definitely not, overly sweet and tastes artificial.

Ordered dumplings — they were small and mediocre.

Crab Rangoon — flavorful filling but not stuffed enough

Mongolian beef was extremely chewy, did have a good kick not enough beef either

Orange chicken — probably best dish.

Overall would spend some time with kitchen staff improving quality.

Hopefully it improves. Local businesses are important for our economy.

Ordered The sweet and sour chicken. It was mostly breading barely any meat. The Hawaiian fried rice which is supposed to have chicken might have had a couple teeny pieces in there. The egg drop soup was tasteless. My husband said the sweet and sour sauce was okay. The spring rolls were not good. We ordered delivery and it did come quickly, but the french fries we ordered for my son were missing.
We love to support local businesses and I truly wish I could have given a given good review for this one.

We thought it was wonderful. We are in and they were so attentive. Egg drop soup is awesome. If you eat in you have to get a large. It was enough for 3 bowls. They gave us each a smaller bowl so we took a bowl home. Jim got beef chop suey and ate every drop. He loved it. I had combination lo mein it was delish. Egg rolls were cold in the middle but they will get it right. Give them a chance. They are a delightful family.

I ordered the egg foo young because of another review and it was very good. Also, I was very pleased with the way the order was packaged to go….there were 3 medium sized patties in a styrofoam container, a medium sized container of white rice and the dark brown gravy was in its own deli style plastic container….it was my first visit but wont be my last.

I had carry out. They forgot my egg rolls, but I called and they will add them to my next order. Check your order before you leave! Excellent chicken fried rice!

Ordered orange chicken, white rice, egg rolls, strawberry smoothie, guava smoothie, shrimp fried rice, and chicken and beef. All were very good! 5/5. Orange chicken tasted rich in flavor and definitely up there in top Chinese restaurants in the area! The staff is nice and considerate. They shared they are short staff right now, and were able to still communicate and meet relative fast turn around times. I would recommend to others!
