As a member of both the Sarasota Museum of Art and OLLI, I frequently have lunch at Bistro. Although the prices are a bit high, it’s a delightful spot for a delicious meal or coffee with a crisp croissant, scrumptious brownie or corn cookie. I don’t know if the restaurant’s revenue benefits the above cultural entities, which I hope it does, its off-the-beaten-path location and, therefore, limited pool of customers justifies the prices. I have never been disappointed in the always fresh and interesting food or in the prompt service. The Bistro is light and bright, the decor is artsy and welcoming and it’s such a convenient place to go after or before enjoying a cultural activity!

Over-priced barely better than cafeteria food. Was very hungry so I ordered the Kale Chicken Wrap, since I didn’t want a small tartine or soup. Mostly kale with tiny small chunks of chicken. I’m a member and love the museum, but that’s the first and last time I’ll be eating at the Bistro.

Very nice artsy bistro for lunch or just coffee and desert. Stop by before or after your visit. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Artsy space with a good vibe located in Paul Rudolph’s 1959 Vocational Shops building behind the Sarasota Art Museum. (Formerly Sarasota High School). No wait staff so you order at the counter and they bring you your lunch. I ordered two soups from The Halves on the menu (choice of two $15). Both soups were hot and homemade. I loved the French Onion soup. The broth was flavorful and satisfying. The second soup was the Vegetable Bisque made with Tomato and Zucchini and roasted red peppers with truffle cream. I don’t eat a lot of sugar so this was too sweet for my palate but my friend scarfed it down as he loved it. He ordered the Toasted Corned Beef Rueben ($15). Dark buttered rye toast with loads of corned beef and sweet pickles (on the side) with (not enough) kettle potato chips. Iced teas were (whoa) $4 but were served in a glass which I appreciate. Enjoyed our lunch, the space (large tables with long benches to support a gaggle of friends, if you have them) and plan to come back before everyone discovers it and we can’t get in!

Delightful bistro featuring locally sourced foods. I had the very tasty grilled cheese along with a very fresh (and artistic!) tomato bisque (see photos). As they feature local foods the menu changes, so call ahead if you have a particular craving. The staff was energetic, pleasant and attentive. I loved the mid-century modern decor with several delightful wall graphics and bright, colorful furniture. The outside seating had many tables, all with sun-shading umbrellas for a nice al fresco experience. And of course, the adjacent museum is well worth the visit!

I have visited the cafe before and thought the food decent if not memorable. Today, however, I was very disappointed. I had the quiche, which was unrecognizable as such. Almost flat. Overly whipped with weird texture and no flavor. My son had the BLT which was similarly tasteless. Although I love the museum, I wont be returning for lunch any time soon unless I hear about a change in chef.

The roast beef sandwich was very good. The modern decor also has displays of art that fit well with the setting. Staff were very nice and excellent service.

Good food, big open indoor space with few patrons. Gluten free and vegan options – thanks! Felt safe here vs other smaller restaurants in town. Plus staff wore masks – like we did. Will come again

The BEST hand-brined turkey sandwich I’ve ever had. So good! What a great spot to enjoy a delicious lunch, glass of wine or a delicious coffee in the sunny courtyard. Then pop into the art museum for a soul filling afternoon. Enjoy!!

Very tasty sandwiches.

The interior is an extension of the museum with the No 14 chair.
