That Time in Austin. Our love and appreciation for barbecue started where it starts for most others, in Austin, Texas. We have spent the last seven years dedicating our time and energy to learning how to create the Central Texas barbecue experience right here in our home state of Maryland. A passion to cook in our backyard with friends has become something we enjoy doing for our entire community. We were not sure where this barbecue journey would take us. At first, we enjoyed sharing our food through pop-ups and catering. In December of 2021, we opened our very first brick and mortar, Bark Barbecue Cafe on Kent Island, Maryland. We look forward to welcoming you to Bark.

You can really tell they put pride and care into their food here. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the food came out hot and fresh. Definitely one of my new favorite spots on Kent Island — I’ll be back for sure!
We drove a few hours to get here and arrived within the last hour of service. We ordered the platter for two ($42), which was a great value. Since they were out of chicken (a good sign—it must be ), we added pork belly instead (additional charge), and it did not disappoint!
My favorites were the brisket—both lean and moist cuts were excellent—and the ribs… OMG absolutely . The pork belly was also on point, with crispy edges and a deep, smoky flavor that hit just right. The chipotle aioli, Alabama white and bbq sauces were solid.
For sides, the standout was the collard greens. They had that slow-cooked, homemade flavor—like someone’s grandma (or someone with thick arms ) was back there putting love into every batch. The Mexican rice and coleslaw were solid and paired nicely with the meats. The “lasered” potatoes were unique and delicious, especially with the house-made pickled onions and pickles.
I do wish they offered mac and cheese—just a small thing—but overall, everything was spot-on.
We’ll definitely be back. Thanks for the amazing BBQ experience!
The ladies at the counter are always welcoming, and have gone above and beyond each visit for me. Also the gentleman, Glen I believe his name was while very knowledgeable on the process of smoking meats. The employees here always make the experience better.
I will always stop in when delivering to the neighboring businesses.
