We were in Cheshire and the restaurant we were planning to eat at was closed. Waze directed us to another restaurant named the Victorian House right around the corner from where we were. This is about 1:30 pm. There were only two cars in the parking lot when we went inside. There were a couple gentlemen sitting at the bar. My friend and I both ordered coffee and onion soup, which we were told was particularly popular and made on the premise. My friend ordered an eggplant Panini and I opted for the bacon burger. The waitress came back a few minutes later to inform us that she couldn’t find the coffee. So, no coffee. We thought that was strange, but we let it go. It was a very cold day outside and the door that we came in wouldn’t stay shut the wind kept blowing it open, so there was a constant draft. Even though we were sitting directly in front of the fire, we had to move because it was too cold. When the soup arrived, my friend only ate a little of hers, I was so hungry , I polished mine off. At that point, I didn’t suspect any issues. After a few minutes the room became filled with smoke that was billing out of the kitchen. I jokingly asked, if that was my hamburger that was burning. She said it was, and it would be out in a minute. I thought she was joking since I ordered my hamburger medium. but no, I got the some blacken mess. I cut my burger in half to find it was completely cooked all the way through. The inside, looking dry and unpleasant , the outside looking like a lump of charcoal. Before I could call the waitress over concerning my meal, my friend held up her sandwich and ask if I thought that was mold all over the backside of the bread. And I said yeah that’s definitely mold. And we’re not talking a little bit of mold we’re talking. It was coated in mold. We then called the waitress over and she apologize and did not charge us. But obviously, we had lost our appetite and was no longer interested in eating there. The only thing we had was the onion soup. After we left I was sick to my stomach for rest of the afternoon. The waitress clearly saw that there was problems with the food before she served it to us and she served it anyway. I don’t know what the story is with this restaurant but clearly something is seriously wrong there. I would avoid eating there at all cost.

New Chef, excellent food, portions are always great for the price! Great family feel, you can come casual and eat in the pub or have a romantic night out in the dinning room! Oldest Restaurant in Cheshire the history is amazing I went there as a kid and now I’m bringing my kids there!

New chef alert yay! My sister and I had the buffalo chicken wrap and blackened shrimp wrap which came with fresh fries. Chef Mike came out to introduce himself which was very nice to see the pride he has for his delicious food! Bartender Mike made us tasty pumpkin martinis. He was running the entire bar and helping the dinner service. He’s a hard worker. Would definitely come back again. Great food. Great atmosphere.

I feel they are about to go out of business. i got the Black and Blue salad – steak was great but there was fruit on my salad no blue cheese no blue cheese dressing or red onions. i feel the chef had a summer salad and slapped my steak on it. it was also soaked in a vinaigrette. so i ate the steak.. and some fruit.
they were out of limes in the bar for drinks or coronas yet they are next to a grocery store…

We had a nice dinner here at the Victorian House. Our waitress was very friendly. Meals came out quickly. French onion soup was very good. As well as our stuffed sole and NY Strip. Bar was pretty full but we sat in the dining room which had only one other table. Nice bar area.

Went for lunch and had one of the best burgers (Angus) of my life. Accompanied by house-made fresh French fries. My friend had a half sandwich and soup (Butternut Squash) combo and loved it.
Very nice and friendly service. I would definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed my experience here today. This establishment has a great bar with TV’s if you’re looking for a filling station. I had lunch on the patio and Nicole was excellent. She was very friendly and attentive. They have new menus and new chefs; the chef that made the meals came out and asked how everything was. The food was really good. 10/10 five stars! We will be back!

The Victorian House has more of a dive-bar atmosphere than local restaurant. It’s not a very professional establishment and it’s usually filled with “regulars” who take over the space.

The food isn’t terrible but it’s also not great. We ordered the buffalo wings and French onion soup to start. The Buffalo wings were good. They were crispy but not dry. the French onion soup was made with chicken broth which isn’t my preference (French onion soup is normally made with beef broth). The soup also didn’t have many onions and the bread was extremely soggy since it probably wasn’t toasted. The French onion soup also did not come out until after our entrees were delivered. The waitress said she would make up for it by removing the soup from the bill, but then never did.

About the entrees and our server… my fiancé ordered the shrimp wrap which was very mediocre, and I ordered the cheeseburger club. However, the waitress put the order in as the cheeseburger sliders. I let her know of the mistake and she sent it back. Our server wasn’t very attentive and seemed to disappear for periods of time. The restaurant wasn’t busy.

The chef was nice enough to deliver the cheeseburger club to me and apologized for the inconvenience. It tasted pretty good.

The fries aren’t very good. They’re really thin so they had a stale taste.

We have been here a couple times before so we already had low expectations when it came to atmosphere, but after this visit we will definitely not come back.
