Dairy-free Pumpkin Spice, need I say more? I will though, generous portions, reasonable price, excellent quality homemade ice cream, friendly service and yes it was delicious. My husband also had a cone of coffee ice cream and he was thoroughly impressed. Since he’s a native Rhode Islander where coffee milk is the official state drink that is a huge compliment. Horatio’s is the real deal, you’ve got to try it.

After hearing about Horatio’s from several locals, including Barb at Jewel Cave National Monument, we made sure to stop at Horatio’s Homemade Ice Cream.

Before diving into the ice cream itself, there are a few things worth mentioning.

First, I loved that they only offer a limited selection of flavors at a time, displayed on the wall. It creates a fun, unique experience with every visit and encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, rather than sticking to your usual go-to flavors.

Second, the atmosphere while waiting in line was fantastic. The staff at the counter were friendly, efficient, and clearly passionate about what they do, which made the visit even more enjoyable.

Now, onto the ice cream…

Confident it would be great, I ordered the “Flight,” which includes four scoops. My picks were:
1. Watermelon Italian Ice
2. Key Lime Pie
3. Milk Chocolate M&M
4. Chocolate

For the record, since the staff assumed my brother and I were sharing, I can assure you we each completed our own flights.

The ice cream at Horatio’s is outstanding. Every single flavor was excellent, the texture, richness, and quality truly stood out. Honestly, if it hadn’t been that good, I wouldn’t have been able to finish all four scoops. But I had no problem finishing them here.

As for the price, $10 for four scoops feels more than fair considering the exceptional quality.

I’m not sure when I’ll find myself back in Custer, but when I do, I’ll definitely be stopping at Horatio’s again, ready to try four more flavors.

Their waffle cone is to die for and the smell is mind blowing!
I got the cotton candy one and it did not taste like anything . Id say more vanilla but not even vanilla. Quite frustrating. 4 stars for the service and waffle cone

Yum! Great ice cream and waffle cones. Interesting flavors – a few I remember are lavender honey, cinnamon honey, bourbon caramel crunch, sage salted pecan. I think they have a few regular flavors (try the coffee!) and come up with others to keep it interesting. Well worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Absolutely delicious!! I had a weird combination because I wanted to try both, but coffee ice cream on the bottom and pomegranate blueberry sherbet on top. Both were incredible! My husband got the cookies and cream and he said it was one of the best!

We are on a cross country roadtrip, and this is by far the best ice cream we’ve ever had. I got coffee and chocolate and my partner got coconut and vanilla.

I will be driving to Custer for ice cream from now on. I found a gem! Usually I get napkins for a waffle cone…because you know the ice cream always drips out of the bottom. Well….not this place. They have performed an absolute miracle ! Their waffle cones do not drip out of the bottom and their ice cream is ABSOLUTELY delicious. 2 LEGIT 2 QUIT…a must stop every time I’m in Custer.

Due to covid, there were no samples available and the servers wore masks. Like others have mentioned, they weigh their scoops. You may not have a smaller one scoop of two different flavors, you must get the 2-scoop option for that. Nevertheless, I ordered a 1-scoop coffee. It was incredibly rich and had a great strong coffee taste! The scoop was appropriate for the dollar point!

They have some creative flavors that are delicious. I asked them for recommendations and tried a fudge like flavor and a lemon like flavor and they both were delicious.
