We originally went to the restaurant in May of last year scoping out potential caterers for our family reunion. After we tried the food we knew Barr’s Music City Soul Food was the one! We utilized Barr’s Music City Soul Food as our primary caterer for our family reunion over Labor Day weekend this year.
The food was absolutely phenomenal. For our Fish Fry, the fish was fried fresh onsite! We paired the fish with spaghetti that was absolutely delicious and French fries which were also fried fresh onsite! They also did our Sunday Lunch where we had Turkey Wings, Turkey Legs, Baked Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Dressing and Greens. Again, EVERYTHING was delicious! The turkey wings were tender. All the food was perfectly seasoned! The Mac and cheese was SO GOOD and i love dressing and theirs was again, absolutely delicious!
Barr’s Music City Soul Food also did all the decor for our reunion. The decor was absolutely beautiful, and fell right in line with our theme. The decor far exceeded our expectations!
Lastly, the customer service was absolutely phenomenal! I was apart of the planning committee for our reunion so I worked very closely with Erica. She truly has a can do attitude and was determined to help us get to the finish line with the vision our family had for our reunion! Her professionalism, patience and kindness is admirable and she is truly a pleasure to do business with! Erica was there each day of our reunion working hard and, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Her team was also amazing! From cooking the food, to serving, to cleaning up, they ran like a well oiled machine! Everything was absolutely seamless! If there were any hiccups or mishaps, no one knew a thing about it because of the level of professionalism carried by the entire team!
I am so glad that we found Barr’s Music City Soul Food and that we were able to utilize them for our reunion in Nashville! If you’re ever in the area, do yourself a favor and go support this amazing Black Owned Business! You will not be disappointed!

I was reading the reviews before I ordered and just being completely honest I was a little skeptical but something in my spirit told me don’t follow the masses and try it for my self ( Mississippi native born/raised ) I will be completely honest and say the food was DELICIOUS, did it taste like my grandmas cooking back home ? NO , BUT its authentic and their version of soul food which I can appreciate!! Don’t let the reviews deter you! Try it for yourself. I oredered Pork Chops, rice and gravy & Mac and cheese and the fruit tea. 10/10

I seen this restaurant a few times over the years but I never stopped by. Recently my wife and I have been seeing this restaurant on tiktok a lot, so we decided to stop by to see if the place was legit. We waited maybe 20 or 30 minutes because there were a few people in front of us that could make up their mind on what they wanted. We order two plates both were with fried chicken and two sides my wife’s two sides were mac and cheese and sweet potatoes my two sides was the cabbage and the collard greens we tried the sweet potatoes first and they seemed amazing until we had a few bites then it wasn’t the mac and cheese was not good at all the cabbage and the collard greens were the best thing that we had the Fried Chicken they only put that white powder stuff over the skin the rest of it was flavorless the cornbread muffins that they had were extremely dry the fruit tea that they sold was really good also. Very small on the inside maybe three or four tables.

We went there for lunch and it was delicious! I love any collards but theses were some of the best I’ve ever had. Super nice people and I recommend the bbq chicken- it’s fall-off-the-bone tender. The prices were reasonable (we shared a lunch special $17). Super clean and fun.

This place was a religious experience. Everything I tasted just got better. I tasted the best coleslaw and meatloaf I have ever had in my life. The chicken was great, collard greens were awesome, potatoes were amazing. I can’t sing its praises enough. You have to stop and try this, I’m coming back and I live 4 hours away.

I truly struggle with this rating, as I understand this is a mom and pop restaurant owned by a Community Pastor and his wife. Unfortunately, my daughter and I were pretty disappointed in the taste of nearly everything—and it truly pains me to say that. We were visiting from California and asked the locals for a great soul food restaurant and they recommended Barr’s. So my daughter and I proceeded to try a variety of dishes. We both were excited to try the catfish dinner. Unfortunately, the catfish wasn’t cooked long enough. Both of ours were incredibly wet. The flavor was good but I couldn’t get past the wetness to fully appreciate the flavor. My daughter had double fries and I ordered the greens and Mac & cheese. The greens were just ok. The Mac and cheese was flavorful and cheesy but nothing exceptional, if I’m being honest. I also ordered the chicken dinner and the chicken just wasn’t good in my humble opinion. It was a bit dry and lacked flavor throughout. I also ordered the pinto beans, which were good, but after a few bites, they were a bit too salty. The sweet potatoes were tasty, but they were just a little too wet. I also ordered a side of dressing, which is cooked with diced red peppers, which I don’t favor, so I wasn’t very particular about the dish as a whole. If red peppers is your thing, then the dressing might work for you. The cornbread was a bit dry and bland. Lastly, my daughter ordered the banana pudding for dessert while I ordered the peach cobbler. I have to say that those two dishes were the most disappointing. The bread pudding was just ok and peach cobbler wasn’t it at all. Bot the crust and the peaches lacked flavor and just weren’t very palatable. The meal was delivered through UberEats and it was delivered pretty promptly. For everything we paid about $75. If we return to Nashville, we’ll give this place another try, but I think it will be in person dining to see if the experience is any better. ⭐️⭐️

I found this place randomly, and will say that I’m super glad I did!
Were work looking for Black-owned soul food joints and came across this spot while searching on google.
When we arrived, we were greeted with such kindness. The people that work there, including the customers also getting food, were extremely friendly. It reminded me of all the love you get when you’re at a church/family lunch.
The food here was so good. I had the fried chicken and mac, and don’t regret it! The fried chicken was the best I’ve tried in a very long time and what impressed. The mac was creamy and cheesy. The mac was a little bit on the sweeter side, the first time I’ve tried it like this and it was too good!
I’d recommend eating here if you visit Nashville, TN.

I really hate that I have to agree with the other negative reviews . The food isn’t good . It’s just prepackaged food that they warm up or something. There is no true SOUL in this food . The yams are canned , the fish was unseasoned , the dressing was sweet . The pork chop my husband had may have been the best thing . Even the Banana pudding, it literally tastes like the pudding in cup that you get off the snack isle . They charge premium price fore microwave food . I’m so disappointed that I wasted my time and gas on this while visiting Nashville

My recent visit to Barr’s Music City Restaurant was just okay—nothing spectacular, to be honest. A lot of the food didn’t taste very fresh; it had the flavor and texture of something that might have come from a can with only minimal effort to enhance it. The Kool-Aid was good, but definitely on the sweeter side.
As for the sweet potatoes, I honestly couldn’t tell whether they were fresh or canned, which says a lot about the preparation. The quarter leg I tried was overcooked and came out dry. For a place that’s supposed to give that true home-cooked feel, the food lacked seasoning and the kind of “love” you expect in comfort cooking.
If I had to give it a rating on a scale of 1 to 5, I’d give it around a 2.5. It wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t memorable. With more attention to freshness and seasoning, it could definitely be much better.
