Stuck on Stanley’s – Style Weekly
… Stanley’s in Richmond, Virginia. This is its own thing, not a replica of the iconic Philly. Perchance, down the road, a local bakery will …

Solid cheese steak hoagie. Love the sesame roll. We ate at the bar, I enjoyed a crisp topochico, while my partner had a hazy IPA. We split the cheese steak hoagie (minus pickled peps). Classic fries and delicious potato salad. Looking forward to coming back and trying the tomato pie.

I am from Philly and I have been looking for a good cheese stick spot for years. I seen this one on TikTok a lot of times when I say this is the best $18 cheesesteak I have ever bought in my life. I have no complaints. It was delicious. I ordered it off DoorDash and it still was good.

Like many others have mentioned, I saw lots of great reviews about this place and decided to come in and try the cheesesteak. We arrived 10 minutes before they opened so we found a parking spot right in front on the corner. Had it been a little later, we would have been circling the block. Parallel parking skills is a must! As we entered, we waited to be seated and then once acknowledged we were able to choose our seat. You will notice Eagles paraphernalia almost everywhere. Off to a great start! We ordered 2 cheesesteaks, one plain and one with toppings. For the sides we decided on the fried zucchini blossoms and fries. We also had the bartender make us 2 cherry cokes. Everything was amazing. The fries were a little salty but edible. The bread on the cheesesteak held up so well. I reheated a half of my sandwich for lunch the next day and I promise you it was just as good. They don’t skimp on the meat and it’s seasoned. A win all the way around. The zucchini blossoms had a nice tempura batter and a zesty green goddess sauce to dip. I would highly recommend. I can see another visit in my near future.

Very nice place easy to find, might have to drive around a little bit to find parking but it’s not too bad. Very cozy old fashioned interior AC. The staff is good kind of get what you want and leave you alone for the most part, could be a little bit more attentive but not bad. The food is crazy good I had the Ted Hanson smoked turkey one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had only criticism, I wish the pickled onions were more scattered through the sandwich. Highly recommend this place.

The Philly was really good! Enough that I was able to split it and eat the other half the next day. I upgraded the chips to fries and the fries were good but they were massively over salted. It gets busy so earlier the better and watch out for parking because it can get a little busy forcing you to park blocks away.

Tried the Stanley’s Cheesesteak – it was delicious! And big. I could only eat half and took the other half home. I was disappointed in the $3 add for fries, so just went with the chips, which I believe were just your average Lay’s potato chips on the plate. Service was kind, but also forgetful/got our order mixed up – for instance, I wanted the regular, full experience Stanley’s cheesesteak and my friend wanted the same with no peppers, and both came out with no peppers. My friend had asked for a box and never received the box, and the server took up the plate and tossed his other half. Lots of flies roaming around in the dining area. All in all, good sandwich but subpar experience otherwise.

The food was good. One of the best sandwiches I have had in Richmond, hands down. Atmosphere is that of a classic old style mid Atlantic sandwich shop, with non invasive lighting and personal decorations. Would highly recommend any sub, cold or hot. Pictured are the cheesesteak and the Ted danson.

The Philly steak is cheesey and has a lot of meat. I would do without the peppers and onions . And ask for less black pepper season on mine. Also, I’m not a fan of the bread .but overall, it’s not a bad sandwich. I would go back and try the wedge salad and try it another hoagie during happy hour when they are 2.00 off .The bartender and server were nice and friendly. Give them a try .

Very disappointed. I’ve heard nothing but good things from friends and colleagues about this place, so I decided it was finally time to see what the hype was about. I made the 15-minute drive specifically to try their “famous” cheesesteak to go.
I got home, ready to dive into a hot, greasy steak sandwich, only to open the bag and find a cold turkey sandwich staring back at me.
The Letdown:
• The Drive: A 30-minute round trip wasted.
• The Food: I didn’t want turkey; I wanted the signature dish they are known for.
• The Quality Control: It’s frustrating when a shop is “famous” for one specific item but fails to get that very item into the bag.
It’s a huge letdown when you build up an appetite for a specific meal based on recommendations, only to have the order completely botched. I’m not sure I’ll be making that drive again anytime soon.

Stanleys has the best Italian hoagie in Richmond. Their Cheesesteaks are well known – but their Italians are what I go for.
I’ve been going to them since they opened – but why make a review today? I haven’t been in awhile – and today they actually IMPROVED?!
Yes – their bread is softer. They bake it. The manager tipped us off while we were there and told us they got a new oven and that might be why.
FOOD: The Italian = South Philly Special
It’s amazing. Get it.
Stanley’s Cheesesteak – no explanation needed, also get it.
Another underrated gem? Their tomato pie. It’s not a pie and not really a tomato on it. It’s basically a Detroit slice of pizza that’s on focaccia topped with a slight tomato sauce. It’s amazing and I’ve been dreaming about it since I went the other day.

On the fence about going here? Jump off the fence already. I saw a comment here about parking – and it’s everywhere in Richmond, not special to Stanleys.
