My coworkers and I ordered lunch for delivery. Was so excited after reading great reviews. I am honestly flabbergasted because what we received was nothing but a pile of grease. The only “taste” was like drinking a Luke warm fryer grease. For $20 each we got 1 shrimp, 2 scallops, and the saddest lump of flavorless fish in a soggy breaded grease casing. I think I could have wrung out the soggy breading and had a cup of grease. No seasoning (again unless you count fryer grease as a flavor). Disappointing is an understatement. I feel the pile of tasteless grease slop in the pit of my stomach and it’s making me quesy and sad.
Can’t review atmosphere as we did not go to restaurant.

I had my first taste of Scottish cuisine from this place last Saturday after work. Although I do not eat seafood and the majority of food served therein consisted of fish, I was able to have the Scottish meat pie and even the apple pie for myself.

There can be no doubt this restaurant has the most delicious food. Unfortunately, the portion of fish to batter is ridiculous. There was nothing but batter mostly and we left hungry after paying sixty dollars for greasy fried dough and two tiny potatoes. We’re so sad and disillusioned.

A lovely place with old style charm. Just a shame the food was terrible
I ordered traditional fish and chips, the chips tasted like they had been recooked from the previous night and the fish tasted, well frozen and overcooked.
It had a tiny pot of tartar sauce and a small pot of coleslaw.
The portion was very small and frankly overpriced
My wife had the Scottish pie which was squishy and wet.
It’s a bit out of our way so we won’t be going back for a second try.
The service was good and the location was nice.

The Thistle was recommended by a coworker and boy did it not disappoint! Very friendly staff who clearly take pride in their work and want customers to be satisfied. Delicious fish and chips, we had the beet and onion salad, New England Clam Chowder and a broiled fish/shrimp platter. Two desserts that were delicious as well. Very fair prices for quality food. Very clean restaurant and a great experience overall. We will definitely make this a regular.

What a neighborhood gem! It’s super cute and authentic. Susan our waitress was wonderful. The fried oysters were fresh and delicious as were the soft shell crabs (call ahead and they will save you an order). I eat pretty healthy and while the fish and chips looked amazing I went with the broiled cod which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The seared salmon was also yummy. I was excited that they had all the British candy bars for sale. What a treat!

Better than 5 stars. The nicest, friendliest staff you can find. Classic and charming atmosphere. The food is so very good. Homemade but better and super fresh. And it’s BYOB.

Last night Kit and I were invited to attend a Fund Raiser for the Knights of Columbus that was a Fish Fry for $20 a person.

Not knowing what type of meal it would be, we arrived around 16:00 as the gathering began and the crowd’s arrived.

As we sat waiting for the food with our friends, Francine and Bob Yamello, we enjoyed our relaxed conversations with them and other’s from the surrounding communities…

The food was catered by The Thistle Fish & Chip Restaurant from Northern New Jersey…

When our food was brought to us, my eyes glazed over with joy as the presentation was reminiscent of what I consider to be the best Fish & Chips…

It brought back memories of Argyle’s, Stewart’s and Thompson’s Fish & Chips Restaurants in Kearny, NJ.

The food is Old Country Style, large piece of cod deep fried to perfection with the families secret batter, french fries aka chips with a side of coleslaw and the always present malt vinegar that pleases the taste buds.

Now in addition to my wanderings of New Jersey’s premier Pizza offerings, I have another mission!!!

To see if and where there might be other hidden Gems here throughout our state that we can find to reach the bar set by Thistle…

The fish was delicious, moist with a hard crunchy, not oily outer crust, matched with tasty fries and a coleslaw that brought back memories…

Those memories of my Grandfather’s New England style coleslaw recipe that he brought back from Nana & Pop Pop’s Summer Vacations in Vermont.

The pictures are of the second meal that I brought home for Lunch on Friday…

They have Food Trucks and a Trailer that they come to your location for gathering’s and Social Functions throughout New Jersey.

It would be great if there was a schedule of public events they were going to be at.

Restaurant is very quaint, service and staff was friendly and food was excellent. My husband and I had the fish and chips. All fish dishes you may order fried or broiled. Sides include coleslaw and either chips, roasted potatoes or rice. Restaurant is BYOB. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Their senior special, which includes a cup of clam chowder or salad, beverage, and dessert. Great value and delicious food! The family/owners couldn’t be any nicer.
