What a great place! I just found out about this restaurant recently and I’m disappointed (in myself) that I didn’t know about this place earlier. It’s a very classy place with great views of charming lil Novato. As with any great place the service is excellent and hit has great menu and drink selections.
Kinda funny because my wife and I ordered the same thing and it was excellent! The steak was juicy and full of flavor and it complimented our 12 year old whiskey very nicely.

We passed by this place all the time and never noticed the entrance up the hill. We were able to make reservations online 1 hour in advance for a Friday dinner, which was great for a last-minute date night. We appreciated the flowers while driving up the slope and appreciated the setting sun. (It’s not called Hilltop for no reason!) The service and ambiance was fabulous– I just wish the food were the same.
My partner got the pot roast. Presentation was done very well, served on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and garnished with baby carrots and deliciously fried parsnip ribbons.
I ordered one of the specials– a 12 oz NY strip with mashed potatoes and green beans– to go along with a glass of merlot. I couldn’t legitimately complain about the steak because it was the perfect shade of medium-rare pink, but it was strangely chewy for how it was cooked (even though the server wanted to make sure I liked it). It was chewiest medium-rare steak I’ve had, but maybe that’s how some people like it. After seeing the bill, I wondered whether I should have requested something I would have enjoyed more. The service was so accommodating that I would have been surprised if that had been a problem.
Total for the two entrees and a glass of wine was almost $100 after tax and tip. Glad we came but probably won’t be back for more dinners. Maybe we’ll come again just for drinks and dessert next time!

We were two guys visiting from England. We found Hilltop 1892 while staying in Novato. The views at the top of the hill from the restaurant were great. It was Mother’s Day in the US, which we were unaware of. Despite not booking, we were able to get a table without any problems. We were served by Kerry, and she was superb. The food was very good and the experience was a good one. Recommended.

Went for the first time on Valentines day. Food service was a little slow but we were there at the peak of the rush. Had the Surf and Turf and they had the best lobster I’ve had in a long time. Definitely going back.

Interesting variety of food, including Kobe beef and lamb, all of it cooked wonderfully. Haven’t been disappointed with any of the dishes so far. Great side room with a long table seating around 20 with a great view down on the area. I’ve had 2 work parties there with great reviews from the attendees.

We stopped in for dinner while visiting my daughter. The restaurant has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The seating arrangement capitalizes on these views. The food and drinks are served timely, with the meal tasting well prepared. I recommend this place if looking for a higher class fare.

Really great staff, went for a birthday and when declined a desert after meal actually brought out chocolate fudge bark and a handwritten birthday card to go home with.

The service was great. We go to the hilltop several times a year. Unfortunately the dinner was disappointing. My wife and father had the fish. It was incredibly dry and the vegetables were cold. We aren’t the complaining type but dinner with as not good this time around.
